Good Stats WM I was around although young for the later part of Bo’s tenure. My freshman year at Michigan was Jim’s senior year. Good to remember how much Bo won, even if he couldn’t win bowl games consistently.

Bo won so much because 80% of the Big Ten was putrid in the 70s- as was about 70% in the 80s. Plus, while they didn't schedule MAC teams, they generally shied away from scheduling Elite programs for most of that timeframe.

Definitely the days of the Big 2 Little 8, but I remember a lot of quality non-con opponents. At least in the 80s which is when I started paying attention.

If you haven't seen it yet, go to mgoblog and read Brian's commentary on the Harbaugh saga. In simple terms, M probably could have retained Harbaugh if they had accepted the terms he was asking for when they were presented by Harbaugh's agents to the deciders. Instead they held out and for what?

Not unsurprisingly, M agreed to them at the 11th hour and by then it was too late - this per JUB.

This is so classic Michigan. They can fuck up a wet dream when it comes to absolutely important COAs and pretty clearly, they did.

TBH, I like JH a lot. But the constant flirting with the NFL had to stop. From a fan perspective, I'm glad he is going to have an opportunity to build an NFL Super Bowl champion and avenge the loss to his brother when he met the Ravens as HC of SF.

If you've ever read anything about Harbaugh, one characteristic of his in his youth was that he and his brother were highly competitive as kids. I wish him well and I suspect 99% of the fan base feel the same way.

I read it. The impression I got was that he was leaving as long as he had an acceptable offer and at that point there was nothing UM could have done. The last minute change of language that Harbaugh's attorney's requested is classic CYA. "See? We did everything we could. Don't blame us!" There was never a situation where Harbaugh was staying other than the NFL jobs in which he was interested did not reciprocate and that was not going to be the case this time around.

I haven't seen too many people that are upset at Harbaugh for leaving (though that number is much greater than 1%). What drives me nuts is all the backlash at the school for not retaining a guy who clearly has been trying to leave for 3 years. Makes me think they ARE upset but they don't want to train their ire on Harbaugh so they're blasting the AD and Regents. And for the record, I think Warde is dumb, fat, and lazy but there wasn't much he could do in this instance.

On with the new guy, and I hope its Sherrone Moore. I have yet to read any player or recruit comments that indicate anyone jumping ship due to Harbaugh leaving. I'm thinking the total loss of players will be less than 5.

I'm ready to jump in behind Coach Moore 100% .. with both feet. Give the man the job, and lets go. And the good thing is, he WANTS to be here. Not like the last guy claimed to be.

There is a poster on "Bucknuts" who claims inside sources to the Chargers and Harbaugh. He posted in October that he'd be the next Chargers coach. He said it was pretty much done barring weird shit. He was also right about a couple other smaller things about JH. Whatever.

Believe it or don't. Up to you. IMO, HARBAUGH***** knew he leaving for a long time. He knew what his roster was and was going to be and I'm sure dealing with college shit wasn't his favorite thing. That's my opinion. I don't think M had an path to keep him.

Mike, I don't disagree with your take. If I'm not mistaken, M's offer on his contract extension was on the table in early December. Reportedly. JH's agents countered quickly with, we're told, the immunity language.

M Deciders sat on it for what amounts to 2 months. Whose to say Jim may have signed within a week if the U agreed to his counter? What we don't know is the kind of discussions that went on between M's deciders and Jim's agents. They pretty clearly not productive.

I'm not 100% convinced Jim wanted to leave for the NFL. I know you and Talent are. He repeatedly signaled he loved coaching at M going as far as saying he wanted to retire at M. It's not like him to make shit up. He can be obtuse but he's not a liar.

Anyway, its done. Like you, I'm excited about moving forward. M football is in a good place despite what talent thinks. They'll be competitive for a play off spot notwithstanding a questionable QB room.

IMO Harbaugh knew what he was going to do when he hired his agent. Up until that point there was a slight chance of him remaining at Michigan, but he knows, as most reasonable people do, that the NCAA was getting ready to formulate their punishment toward Michigan in a way that would make it nearly impossible for M to keep him. Harbaugh foresaw this, and wanted guarantees that M would stand with him and fight, and not fire him as a way of appeasing the NCAA, like they did with Steve Fisher and Jamal Crawford. The M administration dawdled around, picked their noses, shuffled their feet, and failed to agree to Harbaugh's terms. Hence, the hiring of the agent, and then the in-person "we didn't have this meeting" meetings that took place during Michigan's Rose Bowl week, where the Chargers and Harbaugh's agent laid the groundwork to bring Harbaugh back to the NFL. Harbaugh and the Chargers went along with the well-orchestrated song-and-dance with the 'interviews' and satisfying the Rooney Rule, .. and finally got to yesterday when the deal was finally set.

M made an 11th hour last gasp offer to get Harbaugh to stay, (so Warde Manuel could say "I TRIED" ) but that was never happening. M had its chance back in December, and flubbed it. As they did with Erik Bakich. As they did with John Beilein. They likely would have forsaken him again later this year anyway.

So now, its on to Coach Moore, and whatever remains of the coaching staff that Harbaugh will decimate on his way out.

Jim is the one who seemed to keep moving the goalposts on the contract with Michigan. Had they agreed to the immunity clause, his reps would have used the Feb. 15th date and on it would have went.

There’s no doubt he loves Michigan. But he’s also talked about winning a Super Bowl over the years too. Above all else he’s a competitor and he wants to win at the highest level. That means a Super Bowl.

You know where all the blame for this lies? That goddamn Colin Kaepernick! If he gets them into the endzone at the end of that Super Bowl, Jim wouldn’t need to go back for a 2nd bite at the apple.

I hope he can preserve most of the staff that's already in place. Still no word on whether Minter is leaving. Or Herbert, for that matter.

Harbaugh was in A2 today, but tonight is on his way to Baltimore to see the Ravens game on Sunday. After that he's scheduled to head back to SOCAL.

If Minter and Herbert aren't on the plane with him then, I'm feeling better.
