  • Jeremy Fowler (NFL insider guy) was on Sportscenter a few minutes ago and said: “I talked to a source close to Harbaugh who said the chances of him (Harbaugh) returning to Michigan at this point is probably pretty small. Certainly not out of the realm.”

All sides have leaked their narrative of contract language to JUB and Dan Wetzel in the last 24 hours. I think there’s a 95% chance Harbaugh is gone at this point. It’s not trending well. Especially if the Chargers decide Harbaugh is their guy.

Our last hope might be Santa Ono caving into all of Harbaugh’s demands if Harbaugh has a Chargers offer in hand. I did this once to receive a promotion at work for example! It’s called leverage. Keep the good employees.

    • I'm fine with him leaving and expected it all year. Turn it over to the young guns and get on with it.

      • Man, the defense will be really good next year.

        • How about the offense?

          Comment

          • I haven't seen a comprehensive list yet but this is what I know of:

            RB: Edwards/Mullings - Very solid

TE: Loveland/Bredesen - Very solid as long as Loveland is healthy

WR: Morgan/Morris - Could use some portal help here

OL: Hinton/Preive (NW transfer)/El-Hadi/Persi - Losing all 5 starters, I believe, but there's a lot of 4th/5th year guys with a lot of experience to step in. Good spot to use the portal.

QB: This could be a problem.

The offense will clearly bear the brunt of the exodus to the NFL. Good thing defense travels. We're gonna have to Iowa some teams next year but I think 8-4 is probably doable. USC at home doesn't scare me nor does the game at Washington. Those are both winnable and the Oregon game is at home in early November. The Ducks will probably be the class of the league but maybe by then Michigan will have something rolling and pull the upset at home. Likely cooked against Texas which sucks because I'd love to play them with JJ or a similarly talented QB. Oh well. Is what it is. I'm really looking forward to the games against the new members.

            • The biggest concern on offense is QB, no question. If the roster stays as it is now, its going to be between Alex Orji and Jadyn Davis. Orji is the big strong guy that you can use in the running game, while Davis is smaller, somewhat elusive, but a darn accurate passer. All Davis lacks is experience.

The defense will be solid, but not as deep.

As I've said before, the 24 team may not be a NC contender, but they could pull an upset or two along the way and be a thorn in the side of the big dogs. I'll be watching them just as much in '24 as I did the last 3 years.

                • Jack Tuttle is back? I thought he was a grad transfer-1 year only type.

In that case, I'm fine with the QB situation. Tuttle can play.

And I forgot about Denegal. He's got skills too.

The QB room may not be in such bad shape after all. Certainly better than the room Carr left behind.

                  • Not sure about Tuttle. The author mentioned down thread that he's not sure if he's getting another year or not so he left him in for now.

                    • Yeah, he's still waiting to hear from the NCAA about an extra year of eligibility.

He says if he doesn't get it, he would like to stay on as a member of the staff.

                      • I don’t think he’s starter material but experience is always welcome.

                        • HARBAUGH***** interviewed for the Falcons job, too? IMO, that means he doesn't have the Chargers job locked up and it also means he's desperate to get to the NFL. He'll only be back at M if no NFL team wants him. And, given his age and the seeming NFL preference for 33-yr old OC "geniuses" -- he might not. I sort of think he'll get the LAC job, but it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't.

                          • Talking to the Falcons could be a way to leverage the Chargers, too. Who knows…

                            • I'm 50/50 on whether I want Harbaugh to return. I'm tired of this annual flirting with the NFL. And he has apparently quit recruiting completely? I don't know but there has to be some explanation for why our recruiting has tanked so spectacularly despite us being in the playoffs now three years in a row and winning a national title. I know that we are behind on NIL but still -- what the hell?

Moore will get the job if Harbaugh leaves and i'm not sure if I love that. His audition was successful but running a program long term is a lot different from being an interim coach. I love Moore's playcalling (for the most part) and I love his in-game management. But can he recruit? Can he maintain a culture? Will he pick good assistants? That remains to be seen. It will be an experiment. I'd rather go outside the program for a proven guy, but that would be a major disruption to the program and it would piss a lot of people off. I think that's why Moore is a shoe-in for the job.

Correct. But, either way, it certainly indicates a commitment to get out of dodge.
