Good. It was all based on the overwhelming stupidity of the NCAA anyway.

    • In reading the ESPN article https://www.espn.com/college-footbal...baugh-rejected , it sounds like Michigan was ready to accept the 4 game suspension and move on, but the NCAA either reneged, and/or decided they wanted to have him suspended longer. It could also be that the NCAA is digging in its heels on Harbaugh either apologizing and/or admitting that he was wrong.

Michigan has obviously balked at that idea, and it may actually go to a full blown hearing in front of the NCAA. That would take months to complete. So, he's likely safe from any penalty during the 2023 season.

This is all so stupid. But, the NCAA is full of itself and stupid pride, .. and Harbaugh is hard-headed and stubborn. And Michigan has a world class legal department that can go up against anyone in the country. I think eventually its going to be a train wreck of massive proportions.

And Harbaugh will likely use all this to bolt to the NFL after this season. Hello Head Coach Sherrone Moore.

        • Nothing that is decided by the NCAA would surprise me, Wiz.

Sounds like nothing is going to happen this season, so any 'penalty' will be in 2024 or later. By then, Harbaugh may move on anyway.

          • At this point, I hope HARBAUGH tells the NCAA to “F off.” That’s the end of it.

                • The more I read about the reports of all this, the more I'm convinced that one of the sticking points is that the NCAA wants a public apology and admission out of Harbaugh, and Harbs is telling them to shove it.

AND .. it also sounds like UM is rallying around Harbaugh.

This could grease the rails for a Harbaugh departure after this season. But I also think a major train wreck is coming before that.

Harbaugh is going to take a lot of crap over this, especially from his haters, but I hope he sticks to his guns.

                    • Here's ESPN's pre-season FPI rankings. I think M at #6 is even a bit optimistic as I see them in the top 10 but lower than #6. There are three clear cut tiers in the top 10, IMO..... tier 1, osu, UA, UGA, Tier 2, LSU UT, M and tier 3, USC, Clemson, ND.

I think, pre-season, AlabamAlum's thinking that M comes in around #10 in overall recruiting rankings and that's good enough talent to make the playoffs but they're not going to beat the top tier teams (ESPN's) listed above is good.

View the 2024 College Football power index on ESPN. The FPI is the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season.

Beyond pre-season speculating on who gets to the CFP in 2024, it's hard for me to get excited about M football going forward given NIL. If M's diminishing recruit quality in the '24 class is an indication of how M is managing NIL, with the advent of conference realignment and the Big-18, M football's wins trajectory is going to be in a negative direction.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                      • Top 10 in talent is good enough to win it all with some things going your way. Things such as, no team behavior issues, no key injuries, and some good, consistent coaching.

Without a world-class QB (as Mike mentioned above), you need an effective running game that makes the opponents’ defense play honest and your own defense playing great and not giving up cheap chunks of yards and TDs.

                        • Given JJ is good but not likely "world Class" (same for M's receiver room) M may have the "effective running game" box checked. I'm not so sure about M's D being able to "play great ....." enough to win the conference this season - IMO, a pre-req for getting to the play-offs.

                          • Right. It's not rocket science. Beat ohio. Beat Penn State. Don't mail it in one week- like they tend to do- against sparty, Maryland or Nebraska- and it won't mean shit if you are top 6 or top 10 in talent.

And if Warren is the back up, then that means Ojai is probably going to return punts and kicks. Reports from camp is that he's really doing well back there. I don't think I've ever seen a team deliberately put a 240 pound kid back to return kicks.
