  • The free and open immediate Portal + rogue NIL Collectives are a dangerous pairing, imo. I want to avoid a team getting into a NIL bidding war to keep a player on campus.

    • Maybe and if it gets bad like you say and that combo wreaks havoc, then there should be changes. But as it is, college football is in terrible position right now competitively. It's turned into women's college.basketball where Kirby Smart and Nick Saban are trading titles like Geno Aureamia and Pat Summit did. Everyone went crazy because there were two competitive semis be suse those are a rarity, of course the title game was the laugher.

      • The Portal and NIL will not affect Georgia or Alabama winning titles. In fact, it makes it easier for Georgia, without a doubt, and before it’s over, Alabama.

        • Then it sounds like your complaints about the situation should be minimal.

          • The portal as it is currently set up makes the game worse. IMHO it’s debatable whether it favors any one particular program. I’m surprised that it hasn’t hurt UM more though since historically, we have been douchebags about accepting transfer credits. Maybe we’ve gotten better about that I don’t know.

I want a good product. I think this hurts that, not that Alabama can’t take advantage.

              • The product is shit and has been shit for awhile as evidenced by the entirety of the CFP.

                • Yeah, we’re not gonna agree, ever, on this. The product, to me, is the best sport available. Better than the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

When two parties have wildly disparate viewpoints, discussion is folly. So, fuck off, you Michael Moore sycophant.

                  • Of course you like it. You are the one running it up and collecting trophies like a dragon hording treasure. As an MSU fan I like the transfer portal, so should Michigan fans. So far both schools have improved because of it. So has OSU and Alabama. It's a great thing.

                    • The Portal, I would agree, has helped Bama more than most. Jameson, To’oTo’o, and Jahmyr Gibbs contributed more to Bama than the transfers to about 95% of the other D1 teams.

I am okay with the Portal without the Wild West of NIL collectives that we have.

Again. We are not going to agree on this. I see NIL+Unfettered xfers as a potential detriment to the game. You don’t. I mean, I can explain it to you again but I can’t get you to understand it (or, more softly, I can’t get you to agree and the attempt is a waste of our time).

                        • It may be detrimental, but so far there is not much evidence of that. So they should see some evidence before making any changes to the portal system. That's what I'm arguing, I'm not sure how it could make the product worse than it is right now. College football is about as competitive as La Liga.

It’s new, the evidence will come and will be more than an anecdotal “We have a two-year OL starter with a new house in Ft. Lauderdale.” I think some teams are already poaching from teams. Miami, USC, Tennessee, and word is, Freeze, at Auburn is, too. There is no check and balance to keep it from happening. To think it’s not happening and won’t continue to grow is naive. And it’s always better to proactively avoid problems before they develop into something untenable.

You don’t agree? Fine. Good talk.

                            • Harbaugh/NIL news: The general consensus is that Warde Manuel is on thin ice with new M president Santa Ono. His record in handling the Mel Pearson, bakich and John Beilein employment speaks for itself. Now it appears, according to Todd Anson who went public on Twitter with his complaints about Manuel rejecting his NIL proposal, Manuel owns the problem that Jim Harbaugh has not signed the contract offered to him late last week. He appears to be the obstacle. Whether the buyout is too high at $5M for Harbaugh's tastes or that there's not enough meat in how NIL will operate at M isn't all together clear but speculation suggests these issues are central.

M's president, Santa Ono, is reportedly very pro-sports and see's M football, as it has been viewed in the past prior to "I don't give a shit about sports," Mark Schlissel, as a big deal for studnets, fans and the U. Reportedly Harbaugh has established a direct link to Ono in the ongoing contract situation. There is also speculation that Manuel is leveraging the NCAA Level 1 stuff in the negotiations with Harbaugh. If true, that makes Harbaugh going over Manuel's head to Ono understandable.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                              • If only half of that is true, then fuck Warde in his huge gigantic ass. He should be groveling at Jim's feet not trying to squeeze him.
