I only hope that for 2023 since it's a continuity year.and it would be a shame to squander a team where most of the players from a B1G championship team will be returning. Next year's team is probably on par with 2021/2022. After that though, it could get pretty bad.

    • Blake Corum to announce today his decision for 2023.

I'm betting on "stay at UM", but I don't feel super confident in that.

      • If he's announcing on the Rich Eisen show, I'd say it's NFL.

I am guessing "stay" because if he was leaving, I think that he would do what a lot of kids do and make a Twitter post with a statement in jpg form thanking the fans, coaches, etc.

I hope that I'm right. Fingers crossed. He's a really special running back.

I think his agent is doing his job by advancing negotiations for some means by whihc M recognizes that he's in the top 5 CFB coaches nationally. Those "means" are less about money, but parity for him and his current staff would be a start in keeping everyone around for the entire 2023 season, and more about creating circumstances within the program where he's not coaching Michigan football with one hand tied behind his back. Those means are entirely in the control of the policy deciders at M. Things that Harbaugh might want to change outside of what M can control likely involve what rules and structures bound the national game, e.g., advocacy from the President's office on funding a national CFB pro refs organization, uniform NIL and portal regulation, conference realignment.
I think it's been for 2-3 years that he has been trying to get to the NFL. For a long time now the NFL rumour mill has suggested that he would go to the NFL if the right offer comes along. Unfortunately for him and maybe fortunately for you, what he is looking for is not something any team is interested in giving. Some NFL team may pony up the money, but they aren't likely to give him the car keys. I don't think he is wowing them in the interviews either. This is more than just trying to get a bump in pay from Michigan. I've read too many things in too many places that inform this opinion.

The fad in the NFL is they like to hire these young offensive guys to try and find the next McVay. They are cheap and disposable and don't ask for the keys of the franchise.

            • Great point, Froot, on owners seeking easily disposable offense minded young guys for open or opening HC jobs. That obviously weighs against Harbaugh getting an offer from an NFL team that isn't a disaster.

On Corum. If he stays at M it's a good indicator that JH is staying and has assured him he is doing that along with Hart. Caveats on Harbaugh double speak apply.

........and for Liney; were not going to hear jack shit from M insiders on where M deciders are on a retention plan for Harbaugh and his staff......assuming he's looking for one and the deciders are hashing out contract details. It's the submarine on steroids
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

              • I think Manuel and the authorities that be at M are going to let Harbaugh punch his own way out of this situation. They're going to let this whole NFL thing play itself out, and if Harbaugh is still at Michigan, they may offer to bump up his compensation a bit. But I don't think they really care if he goes or not.

This reminds me a lot of what Larry Brown did to the Pistons. He dared the Pistons to fire him when he wanted to leave, but he didn't want to resign to do so.

                • I think his personality is going to hold him back from getting a job, but if he went to some sad sack team NFL team he could turn it around. If he went to the Texans, Broncos or Colts they would be in much better shape than any of those franchises have been for awhile. But he might drive those people nuts. The funny thing about the NFL is even though they are a big, powerful entity the entire league operates like a bitchy, insular sewing circle.

Meh.... Harbaugh is an early candidate for the Arizona Cardinals’ head coaching job. Make it stop, Shit or get off the pot.
If he wants to move on from Michigan, I want him to move on, and do so expeditiously.

                            • Not everything runs on our preferred timetable. He'll either get an offer and situation he likes in the NFL or he won't. We'll know by the end of the week.
