Maybe he should have taken him to Chicago on the U-M private jet, and bought him an Al's Italian Beef instead. At least get your money's worth.

    • The next time you see Jim Harbaugh live, he will be at the microphone in a presser stating how pleased he is to begin his coaching stint with the Denver Broncos.

So long, and thanks for '21 and '22.

Please try not to gut Michigan's coaching staff completely as you go.

      • Dunno. I’ve also seen reports that the Broncos are already working a trade with the Saints for Sean Payton. Talking to Harbaugh could just be due diligence in case the Payton deal falls apart.

        • Nobody in their right mind would take the Broncos without a dump truck of guaranteed cash. They have given away a ton of talent and picks so it won’t get better anytime soon.

Denver would have to compensate the Saints in order to acquire Payton’s rights, and “the two sides appear to be on the same page about potential trade compensation,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday. Saints want a first-round pick “and more.” The Broncos are aware of that and are “still in the game” for the coach, according to Rapoport.

            • Head coaches have egos and probably think Russ is salvageable. Harbaugh is tying to get to the NFL but I doubt he gets an offer.

              • Denver is fucked sideways for years to come. Whoever takes the job will be saddled with Wilson for at least a few more years with no first and second round picks for the next two drafts. Just an abysmal situation to walk into.

Rumor is he is being offered $ 20M/yr. In my mind that qualifies as a dump truckload.

No, more likely JH's agent is talking this stuff up. Harbaugh may have provided direction to his agent but, the best explanations I've read on the subject of JH to the NFL is that JH's agent is doing his job trying to get Harbaugh recognized by M for his performance in 2021/22. Details are unclear but I doubt Harbaugh is interested in more money. JH's agent however wants his client paid commensurate with other top CFB coaches (after all Jim's agent works on commission as a % of Jim's pay) and to be in a position to leverage M.

TBH, I don't really care if Harbaugh leaves or stays. What I do care about is the disaster a coaching search conducted by Ward Manuel will be. If Jim's agent is doing the heavy lifting for him, I hope against all hope that theM deciders will get out the money cannon or whatever else JH's agent is negotiating for (NIL, Portal, Admissions) and, assuming Harbaugh really does want to stay at M and I take him at his word on this, they give the man what he wants being fully aware of the Cluster-fuck that will ensue if they don't and he walks.

Harbaugh has had a recent conversation with Panthers owner David Tepper, as reported by CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones. While he acknowledged a conversation was had with Harbaugh, Tepper would not characterize it as a job interview.

Maybe they talked about a job, maybe they talked about their kids or New Year's resolutions. This non-sense is getting to the tracking flight IDs as Hackett was flying to different towns of possible hires to replace Hoke. It's dumb. Well, not for the dimwits that go apeshit over rumors and wild speculation. It's good theater, if you're buying tickets to a magic show, I'll admit that.

Like I said, he may leave M, he may not. Makes no difference to me and I won't hold it against him. He will, however, create a multi-leveled cluster-fuck for M football if he leaves.

                            • Your point? That reads more like a piece that suggests the NFL doesn't want Harbaugh and he's not looking to make a jump to the NFL anyway.

I don't know how to be any clearer. Let's put it this way - there's a 95% chance JH will be coaching at M for the 2023 season. The 5% chance he'll leave rests with Ward Manuel fucking this up.

I still say it's Harbaugh's agent doing most of the talking and the sports writers responding, trying to get a scoop, by being first to post the usual post season storeis about Harbaugh to the NFL.

Pretty simple. What makes this complicated is that he's quirky and says or does the unexpected. It's not without precedent that top CFB coaches - and make no mistake Harbaugh his earned rising to that level - assure school administrators, players, recruits and fans that coach X, Y or Z isn't taking another job and then does. Brian Kelly comes to mind. He fucked over lots of people at ND going to LSU and he didn't care at all.

But there's a difference between guys like that and JH,. Kelly, for example, and there are other highly regarded CFB coaches in the same league, is a giant asshat. He sent a young student team assistant to his death and shrugged his shoulders. Harbaugh can be enigmatic but he's a decent human being.

                              • He is definitely trying to get to the NFL, if he gets an offer to his liking there is nothing Warde Manuel can do, they are calling everywhere. You might be right on the 95 percent number, but it is because nobody in the NFL.is going to match his demands.
