  • I don't expect Purdue to win but it's not a gimmie like UConn. I can envision O'Connell getting hot and carrying Purdue to a win. He has a great game every now and then. A streaky QB like that can be a big X factor.

    • Michigan should dominate the LOS on both sides of the ball and there's not a whole lot a team can do when you're on the wrong side of that equation.

      • I hope you're right. I still wouldn't put this one in the "don't worry we can rest Corum" category though.

          • Next man up. Dedicate the pursuit of an NC to Blake.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

            • Wow, didn’t see that coming. Did playing in the Ohio State game make his knee situation worse? Thought it was a knee sprain. I must have misread it last week.

Hope for a speedy recovery to Corum. World class guy.

              • 🤔

To that point… I wonder if there’s anything else to this. JK Dobbins had knee surgery a month or so ago and will be back playing with the Ravens soon.

                • We don't have details but I know enough about his injury to make informed speculation. The injury in the post traumatic period was determined to be more serious. You'll recall I talked about a subperiosteal hematoma of the lateral femoral condyle. The picture below is of the tibial condyle but it is still instructive. When I read up on surgical interventions for this injury I learned that left untreated it can be the initial stage of a later-non-traumatic fracture in the area of the bruise. That would not be good. So, the surgeons will go in and clean the hematoma up. I'm not sure about how that's done. Afterall, it's inside the bone. I'd suspect it involves some fairly substantial hole drilling to get at the affected area and correct the defect. I also looked at some anatomy and learned that the gastroc (calf) muscle originates from the lateral femoral condyle. Pushing off would hurt like hell even if there was no ligamentous or muscle tissue damage to that area.

Is what it is. Hate it for Blake.......I suspect he won't return to M (not sure if he is eligible for another year) but this will probably hit his pocket book in the NFL draft.

                  • Thanks for sharing.

                    Negative news week, geez.
                    - McNamara transferring.
                    - M Smith legal situation.
                    - Corum done.

What’s next? Let me guess, Minter takes the Cincinnati job?? I see that Brian Hartline suggested he’s staying at Ohio State… of course…

                      • I was thinking he probably would be out for the remainder of the year, he might do what Eric All is and come back to prove himself.

                        • As far as Corum playing for M again, I'd say the chances are about 50%. The injury is definitely going to hurt his NFL stock, because GM's and owners don't like any problem on a prospect that affects the knee. I'm not sure where Corum is academically, but athletically, he could come back for 2 more years. He has junior eligibility, and a Covid year if he chooses. I won't be shocked either way.

Really sad to hear about Mazi Smith. But, these kids are told, especially scholarship players, that they cannot commit felonies. These things are explained to them every year, in detail. One hope is that there's no indication that he was about to use the weapon, or that it had recently been used. Its not stolen either. He otherwise has no criminal record. I doubt he'll get jail time, but this is definitely a serious charge. I'm thinking he'll get some extensive community service, probation and likely a fine. Another thing in his favor is that he's been fully cooperating with authorities. I hope it works out for him.

McNamara - nothing but good thoughts for him. Thanks for 2021. He gets the Tom Slade Memorial award in my book.
