  • Cam Cameron is only two years older than Harbaugh. Taught the man how to throw a spiral.

In a hypothetical: if keeping Gattis meant keeping JJ, it’s worth it in the short run. The schedule sets up for an easy 10 wins next year unless the program implodes.

        Short term, that’s great.

Throw Mike Hart in there just for the hell of it. I see Hoke /RichRod days ahead. I do feel for all the osu fans who wanted revenge badly and more years so Harbaugh could be the next - John Cooper.... ah well it was about as great a year as it can get at Michigan. I may be the only Michigan fan not upset with Harbaugh he smoked osu in his last game vs that team. Who wants to stay with Blackberry when Apple is out there? Hey at least I have a new NFL team to cheer on, I still like the (Packers best by default) until now. Looking forward seeing him beat the SOL, I will be a VikingFan (football) here on out.

          • You are right -- it's very irritatating that HARBAUGH!!!! is ducking his trip to Columbus after ducking his trip to Columbus. Especially after talking shit after his one win in 7 years. Yeah, that's irritating.

            Begrudgingly....score one for HARBAUGH!!!!

And, I also think M can do better. And I don't mean that in the "it's possible" sense of the word "can" -- I mean in it the realistically plausible sense. They could also fuck it the fuck up, too. But, they have a solid team back for 2022 and a ridiculously light schedule, so whoever they hire should have the type of first year you need to build program momentum. And there's no way that the new HC will be anywhere near as weird.

              • Mike Hart would be a really stupid hire. Look to East Lansing to see how well it worked out last time a position coach was promoted directly to head coach.

                • But Mike Hart is a Michigan man! Pure Michigan. 🤣

If Chris Balas is right, we should hear about Harbaugh getting the job in a couple hours. Time to move on.

                  • ........ or not. I wouldn't be shocked if the Vikings passed on Harbaugh. He'd be a controversial hire in a town that is trying to down play stuff. The Vikings present a stabilizing force in Minneapolis. The last thing owners want is the kind of disruptive presence a quirky Harbaugh can present when things don't go well and until the Vikings get a decent QB, they won't.

I know talent will be ecstatic if Jim returns. I'll be content but not because I'm glad he's back but because it might knock him down a few pegs making redemption a goal...... until the end of the 2022/23 season with a return of Harbaugh to the NFL rumors.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                    • In a vacuum, the best thing to do probably is to do an outside hire. In reality though, the disruption that replacing the whole staff could cause could be pretty damaging and tough to recover from. This is especially true since Josh Gattis probably thinks that the job is his for the taking and would be really pissed if we bring in somebody else. That's the kind of behind-the-scenes discord that we really don't need.

If we hire Mike Hart, he will be another "players coach" who recruits really well and fields shitty undisciplined, poorly coached teams.

                      • There might be some entertainment value to seeing Harbaugh and Cousins trying to work together. They're both a couple of knuckleheads.

How about this rumor? Bob Stoops on Manuel's short list.

                        • Michigan needs a head coach who is a big game hunter as a recruiter.

                          Comment

                          • That's exactly right. And, honestly, it's not too much of an ask. Again, Brady Hoke recruited really well -- at least initially (first couple classes).

It's not hard to find someone who can recruit better than HARBAUGH!!!! IMO, HARBAUGH!!!! was basically a C-level recruiter -- he pretty much got what the M brand would get with any average recruiter running the show. That was my concern about him when he was hired and was consistently reiterated throughout his tenure.

As I said, the new coach is going to get a big boost by what should be an 11-0 (10-1 at worst) start. That's something to sell.

It'll be interesting to see if they do promote Gattis. It'd be virtually identical to what Notre Dame just did.

                            • Deion Sanders or Tom Brady as the next M HC for sure.

                              Here's a name I haven't heard. Jeff Brohm.
                              1. Brohm can recruit. Look at Purdue's recruiting ranking from like 2008 to 2017. Compare it to Brohm's recruiting success.
                              2. Brohm is very good when it comes to offense. Minus the QB rotation gimicks.
                              3. Trick plays.
                              4. JJ McCarthy's stock would take off if he stays.
                              5. 50 years old. Not that old for a college HC.
                              6. Can beat rivals.

Would gladly sacrifice Purdue's recent success for M. Noting it is success if you understand Purdue football from 2008 to 2016.

                              • I'll also say this -- HARBAUGH!!!! was and is a good football coach. I don't think he was a particularly good recruiter so I think he had a self-imposed ceiling on the college level. But, I do think he's a good coach. Not legendary, but definitely good.

So, it's definitely possible that M can do worse than him. This is not like the Don Brown situation where I was absolutely sure that M could do no worse than him. I was very, very disappointed to see him go. If HARBAUGH!!! does in fact leave, there's a real chance M could do worse. There's also a real chance they could do better.
