  • They just don't see the greatness that is HARBAUGH!!!!

    • Well, Harbaugh would be an upgrade for some teams. The Detroit Lions, for instance.

      • I do think it's Raiders or nothing. IMO, they are the only team that might have interest and, as hack said, if they have interest it's not just a passing curiousity.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
        Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

        • Would he struggle against the Browns and Bengals?

          • There's not a lot of demand for him. He's too old and stuck in his ways. His feelers have been out there for 2 years.

              • I get a kick out of reading lineygoblue's posts in Harbaugh, they are divorced from reality. The chances are great that Harbaugh stays for reasons that lineygoblue cannot comprehend.

                  • I'm not exactly clear why the NFL isn't interested, to be frank. He's not that old. He's a weirdo and an asshole, but most coaches are even if a little more polished in how they go about it. And when you strip away the hubris and look at what he's done at Michigan, well yes he's thrown away too many rivalry games being stupid but he's also won when he's supposed to and been right there an inch away most other times. Schematically the NFL is a better fit for him and it's a level playing field. He's obviously no longer the prize he might have been in the offseasons of 15, 16 or even 17, but he fits well the profile of a retread who will do a decent job and maybe a really good one if lucky. For the teams that can't attract the top candidates he should be a reasonable enough Plan B for at least 1 or 2 teams a year.

But that's just what it looks like to me. I don't follow the NFL close enough anymore to know.

                    • He should coach the Lions. That would be a great fit.

The Lions have no interest in fielding a championship team, or playing in the Super Bowl. They provide entertainment and pocket money for the Ford family. Nothing more.

Harbaugh put a team in the Super Bowl. Something Nick The Great or the Urban Myth never did, and never will.

I still say if he wanted to coach in the NFL, he'd be there, or his agent would be working on a deal right now.

                          He's not leaving.

Most of you guys would hate it if he left. You'd have much less to beat up Michigan with, if he leaves.

                          • And, yet, you were at various times thinking there was at least a substantial likelihood of him leaving. So, whatever,
That's accurate but my characterization of Harbaugh as possessing some level of principled behavior when it comes to recruiting has applied to him whenever this crap about him bolting for the NFL comes up. I don't think he's a ND's Kelly sort of human being that has zero second thoughts about screwing people to achieve or get done exactly what he wants..

I'll reiterate what I said after the OB ass-kicking by UGA. There was a chance after that game that it might be a problem retaining him and his coaching staff. That belief was based on the likelihood that he perceived he was treated shabbily by several of the regents after the 2020 season - the kind of stuff he doesn't forget. Can Jim let that sort of thing get under his skin and have it persist? Yes.

I still believe that's a factor for him but, like I said in my post above I'm not dismissing your view. There's some stuff floating around that seems to indicate he's not on the A list of NFL owners and GMs looking to hire a new coach. Plan B? Maybe and he could be waiting for that to evolve. At this point I kind of doubt it.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

As a Bears fan...I'm eternally grateful for the ineptness of the Lions front office...which is slightly more inept than the Bears front office...

                              • I think this Lion front office might be pretty good, they have a few guys who would actually get hired in other places. But it's still the Lions, so until they do it, they get no benefit of the doubt.

The problem with Harbaugh to the NFL other than his age and being out of touch would be his salary and personnel demands. There is a reason the Raiders are the only team that seems like they are in the mix, they are one of the few teams that might give the car keys to the franchise. He wants the Gruden deal. If he was willing to go to a team just to be the head coach for 5-9 million with no personnel power, he could get a job. Some of these 8 openings are going to end up with underwhelming hires.
