    • This is a decent article by BronxBlue (author of the mgo series Best and Worst) that provides a good explanation of why Michigan plays, opponent independent, "poop" football minutes 6-30. there are several reasons the author opines but a central one is that opponents, as is the norm in CFB, frequently deploy offensive and defensive packages that M is unprepared for. BronxBlue goes as far as to say part of that problem is the coaches didn't do enough pre-game studying of what they consider to be an over matched opponent.

Another important point he mentions, using Rutgers as an example but this point has been fairly obvious in all of M's BIG games this season, Winsatt hit Ryan and Crookshank for two big plays and M had a FG blocked while Moody missed two 50 yard FGs that are usually in his range. TWO big pass plays the entire game along with an unlikely special teams disaster but they become outsized in our perception of M play in general.

That's not to say these sorts of highly improbable plays that get made by opponents don't have an impact they do but that impact is that an overmatched opponent gets to hang around for a while then gets paved. Recall IU, PSU, MSU before Rutgers and they all had the same pattern - hang around for a while then get paved. There's more detail in the link if you have time to read it. This guy has a remarkable ability to first see what's going on watching a game on TV and then writing entertainingly about it.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

        • Not sure how good this kid is or how much it will hurt Nebraska

Huskers safety Myles Farmer was arrested over the weekend and faces a DUI charge. He will be suspended for Saturday’s game at Michigan.

            • I have nothing but good feelings toward this guy. I hope he heals and rehabs quickly and comes back to push JJ next season. If he decides to transfer, I'll wish him the very best of luck. He's the kind of young fellow that I want to see wearing Michigan's uniform.

              • Same. He beat Ohio State in a meaningful game. Leader and classy, McNamara will always have my respect.

Would love for McNamara to transfer portal over to Purdue in 2023. There’s an opening with O’Connell gone! Football version of Spike Albrecht.

                • That would be a concern to me. If he transfers, I really don't want to see him transfer within the conference. I'd hate to face him with a decent team behind him. He doesn't hurt his team with his performances. He's a solid competitor.

                    • So.. just like in 2016, Michigan had an injured QB and still beat ohio.

Thankfully, they got credit for it in 2021.

At least its not on Fox.

                        • I now have the secret code to enjoyably watch M football on TV ...... stream WTKA radio feed on my PC synched with whoever the fuck is broadcasting the game.

I've never particularly liked the major networks productions of CFB games but this year is a fucking milestone for shitastick production. I could list the fuck-ups but ..... no, why bother. Anyone who watched the ABC production of M v. Neb saw them all.

On the radio and during the multiple 4m and 30s TV time outs, Jon Jansen explains why the last play worked or didn't in minute detail. I think the best part I got out of his commentary is that how easy it is for a play to fail or succeed based on one or two mistakes by the players. I can't pick that out as it happens or on replay but a guy like Jansen who has played the game can.

AlabamAlum mentioned in another post regarding the problems with Alabama that the OL is getting mauled, that creates lack of running lanes and QB pressures that weaken the passing game's effectiveness.

That's what was happening to M yesterday because #1 LT Hayes is out, #1 RT T. Jones is out, #2 RT Karsen Barnhart is filling in for #1 RG Trevor Keegan who is injured. The OL is wounded and playing musical chairs to cobble together something that works .... it doesn't.

If you watch Corum, the big chunk plays are gone. What he gets - a lot (162 yesterday) and it's why he is and should be the Heisman front runner - is mostly on his own.

JJ was under a lot of pressure yesterday - 2 sacks I think and his accuracy, already an issue was made worse by the requirement to get rid of the ball fast. The passess over the heads of receivers, into the dirt, too far behind or in front of a crossing receiver or on an out pattern were the result. He was 8/17, 127, 2, 0 for a 47% completion rate (his avg before yesterday's game was 76%), easily his worst outing of the season ..... and IMO mostly the result of poor OL play. He didn't get a lot of help from his receivers but, man, I'm loath to put the blame on them as this is a good example of how important it is for the QB to have the time to put the ball on the mark and for the receiver to maneuver himself into a position to beat coverage (it was mostly man and rarely beaten) and make the catch.

Hayes and Barnhart were dressed and did play a small number of snaps, Keegan was dressed but DNP. Zinter played but sparingly. It appears Harbaugh is resting these guys and leaning on the 2 and 3 deep. It also appears Corum wants it and Harbaugh is facilitating his Heisman run. But, man, he's taking a beating.

NB: on synching the radio feed with the TV broadcast. It's not a one and done deal. No live TV broadcast is a direct feed. It's taped and then played from the production van. What that means is that at every break of the broadcast, you have to resynch the radio stream. I got pretty good at doing it - not a problem.

                          • M's WRs are meh and JJ still has, ummm, a lot of untapped potential. After 11 games it is what it is. The WRs aren't really going to change. It's possible that JJ can make some strides.

Agree. It's surprising how consistently "good" every opponent's pass coverage seems to be. Maybe not but instead M's receivers can't run a clean route outside of defensive busts (Bell wide open for an easy pitch and cath in the EZ).

IMO, it was pretty clear pass-pro yesterday was a mess compared to most of the games M has played so far. Nebraska's defense is good, not great but Mickey Joseph saw a weakness on M's OL and exploited it nicely with a lot of 5 man pressures getting through.

With time after the snap, JJ may be able to sharpen his throws. He's OK but not great rolling out. Much better in the pocket .... when it's available. It wasn't yesterday.

                              • I think JJ has reached his zenith for this season. If he's going to be asked to play better in order to win a game, then we're in trouble. I don't know what kind of strategy CRD will employ to stop Corum, but be assured, that will be the game plan. OSU's defense has gotten consistently better throughout the season, and in two weeks, I'd expect them to be at their best. Michigan won't be able to force its will (i. e. running game) on their defense. For Michigan to win, JJ is going to have to be a gunslinger to make them come out of that defense. He doesn't have that ability.

Offensively, Stroud HAS the ability to put the team on his back and carry them. OSU is wounded in the running game, but that's not going to hurt them as much as Corum getting bottled up will hurt Michigan. Stroud IS that gunslinger type QB.

I expect a decent ballgame. Its not going to be one of those OSU "name your score" blowouts. Michigan will fight hard, but osu will prevail.
