      • I’m just shocked that it came it this. Totally thought it was a done deal.
Reading between the lines, sounds like Jim Harbaugh was ready to leave. Explains the Chris Balas news from yesterday.
Harbaugh supposedly came into the Minnesota interview assuming the job was his. I’m guessing Minnesota gave Harbaugh the same interview as Patrick Graham… leading to the two sides falling apart. NFL teams would be more sensitive with head coach job interviews given the Flores lawsuit.
Arrogant to come into an interview thinking you have the job. Entitled to it.

        • I thought at the time Balas got a little over his skis. It was all coming from the Harbaugh side and very little on the Vikings side. The way they hire NFL coaches these days is different, they are all about hiring young guys. That doesn't mean some owner won't buck the trend and hire him, but this isn't Caesar returning to Rome.

Yeah, I think that sounds like how it may have gone down. Harbaugh goes there thinking all he has to do is smile, shake hands, and start talking contract terms. The Vikings say, 'not so fast', and start telling him what they want from him, which is not likely what he expected. So, back to Ann Arbor.

It will all repeat itself after the 2022 season. As usual.

It would all be sour, of course.

Yeah, I think the best analogy is Michael Scott going to interview for the "corporate" job on The Office. That's what it feels like to me right down to the self-awareness and overall awarness of the situation.

Anywho, I'm glad he'll be in Columbus on November 26.

                • The Vikings interviewed him for 9 hours, apparently. I can imagine that after 9 hours in tight quarters with that nutjob they were pretty much like "get the holy fuck out, NOW!"

                    • Make no mistake the NFL would want you to believe the Vikings didn't want him, don't care wasn't there. 90% of All the so called Michigan 'insiders' were wrong. Balas is a clown who got that boulder going down the hill (Herbstreit move). I’m happy, most of all, because it’s the clearest road back to the trajectory the program was on. I’m a lifelong Harbaugh homer, all will be forgotten very soon, just win - now lets get a DC!

On the other hand, he apparently spent 9 hours with the Vikings, so it might have been a meeting of equal levels of nut-jobbiness.

                          • Oh, yeah....the levels of loathing in that room went way past Israel-Palenstine somewhere around hour 3. Holy fuck balls.

Exactly. Except it was a 9 hour version of it. Can’t imagine David Wallace would have any sanity left if he was stuck in an interview with Michael Scott for 9 hours.

                              • Sam Webb pretty explicit that he was going there to get the job, but that he didn't expect to be handed it. Was prepping all day Monday, etc. Who the heck knows, but Sam's not a guy who ever finds himself out ahead of his skiis.

Anyhow, here we are. The AD gets to escape having a long look in the mirror, and we all can go back to being frustrated in advance about McCarthy handing off to RBs on 3rd and 3 for the next 2 years. For Sparty it's back to having empty thought bubbles now that someone took away their imagined slights and double-standards.
