I've had both Lafayette and American Coney...both decent but I compare them to Pat's Steaks and Geno's in Philly...most famous but not the best in Philly...tourist traps...both the DTW places are heavy in Greek seasoning that only a bottle of mustard and a whole diced onion can cure. I'll take your word on the Flint dogs...don't see myself in Flint anytime soon since the tropics and Coffee Black are gone...

Yea, I grew up in Flint, and although I live within 30 miles, I rarely go back there. Any friends I had there are either moved away or are dead.
The Flint style coney is more of a dry chili, and not a soupy chili. Its a topping that, when made correctly, is absolutely delicious on a Kogel hot dog and a properly warmed bun. Mustard and onion complete the experience. That, with an order of real sliced fries (sliced in the restaurant) and an ice-cold Vernors... man, it can't be beat.
Those places existed all over the city and county when I was a kid. Today, there's only a handful of real coney island joints where you can get the real thing."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"

I don't get the love for Lafayette Coney Island, my brother in law is a big devotee, so if we are drinking in downtown Detroit he always wants to go. He is the size of an NFL linebacker so you don't argue.
I'd argue against Lafayette being a tourist trap. No tourist is going there, especially pre 2010.

Don't be surprised if sometime this morning, the Big Ten Conference decides to suspend Jim Harbaugh for two games, beginning today. And this time he will not be allowed to have any contact at all with the team for two full weeks.
If that happens, expect the University of Michigan to file for an injunction immediately afterward. Apparently, Tony Titties told Santa Ono before he left that he was planning to suspend Harbaugh on Monday, under the "sportsmanship" part of his responsibilities. Ono reportedly told Tony to go ahead, and our lawyers will see your lawyers in court.
All this is rumor of course, but it sounds plausible. If this happens, that means this is going to get a whole lot uglier, before it gets any better.
The fans in HV will be absolutely seething if Harbaugh is allowed to coach on Saturday.."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"

I have no idea why Ric Flair likes Michigan so much. (insert hater's 'cheater' punch line here)
Flair has been on Michigan's campus a couple times this month already. He's a U-Minnesota alum, but loves Michigan.
And so far, the B1G hasn't suspended Harbaugh. Maybe tomorrow. Hang in there, haters. The B1G still has a chance to behave stupidly."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"

The Gordie Howe bridge is almost ready to be connected.
Props to the Canadians for showing everyone how its done. While Stupidnow, Peters and Biden mealy-mouthed their 'support' for the structure, Canada said, "forget you, we'll build the freaking bridge".
And here we are.
Thank you Canada. Thanks for being the grown ups in the room. This is a much needed and overdue bridge."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"
