Said UM was stealing signs. NCAA is out to get UM over Jim's hamburger purchase.

Mostly the NCAA hates that they didn't ask Harbaugh the right questions and got truthful answers to the questions they did ask. Kansas is on tape bidding against Arizona for Aynton and nothing happens.

    • The NCAA is going to run Harbaugh out of the college game no matter what it takes. They've wanted him out ever since he did those travelling camps right after he came to Michigan.

I see the NCAA as being a lot like General Motors. What General Motors did to Flint Michigan because of the Sit-Down strike, was absolutely criminal. GM has/had a LONG memory and never got over the UAW's success in forcing them to negotiate a contract. GM waited, and finally in the late 90's they started shutting down the GM factories in the Flint area. At one point, there were nearly a dozen GM factories in the Flint and Genesee County area. Today, there is one (1). Not only did GM leave Flint, but they tore down all the factories that closed, and left giant cement slabs where they once stood.

This is what the NCAA is doing to Harbaugh. Its a scorched earth policy. They're going to keep doing stupid crap to him until he finally gives up and returns to the NFL. It doesn't matter what gets destroyed along the way. The NCAA has had its fill of Jim Harbaugh, and no matter what it takes, or how costly it may be, they want to be rid of him.

      They'll get their way eventually.

When they can't beat you on the field they resort to petty headlines. That's why I squealed with delight when I saw this story. It's great to be king

            • I want to see the smoking gun.

Show evidence that Michigan coaches/scouts went to another school's campus, found their way to the athletic facility, sat and watched their future opponent practice, and got away with it all this time.

And don't most schools have indoor practice facilities, where the 'secret' stuff is done? And if they have indoor facilities, don't they have total control over who comes inside?

Back in the Schembechler years, Ohio State operatives used to rent houses along State Street, and put residents in there to video Michigan's practices. That was not illegal back then. Its one of the many reasons that the original Schembechler football building was built.

Interesting that the article said that Michigan "spied" on Georgia and TCU before the playoff games. Man, that really helped them, didn't it?

I can see it now. Back in 2022, Harbaugh asks the coaches, "Okay, whose turn is to go spy this week... We need those signals from Colorado State"....

I wonder who went and spied on UNLV this year.

              Come on now.

As I said. Whomever is accusing Michigan of this crap needs to unzip their fly and show what they got. Show the smoking gun. Lets see the evidence.

Failure to produce irrefutable evidence will prove that this is just another NCAA tactic to intimidate Harbaugh.

              • Harbaugh's statement regarding the "scouting"

“I want to make it clear that I, and my staff, will fully cooperate with the investigation into this matter. I do not have any knowledge or information regarding the University of Michigan football program illegally stealing signals, nor have I directed any staff member or others to participate in an off-campus scouting assignment. I have no awareness of anyone on our staff having done that or having directed that action. I do not condone or tolerate anyone doing anything illegal or against NCAA rules.

No matter what program or organization that I have led throughout my career, my instructions and awareness of how we scout opponents have always been firmly within the rules. Pursuant to NCAA rules, I will not be able to comment further while this investigation takes place.

                    • A more detailed ESPN article is out about the subject. Recommend to read due to the new details.

It’s allegedly a low level staffer. NCAA better be right about this and have evidence that M illegally scouted at opponents games. Otherwise, wouldn’t be surprised to see a defamation lawsuit happen given all of the personal details about the alleged guilty party.

As I understand it it's not the sign stealing that's illegal. It's the scouting of other teams off camps that's illegal. So a GA can't go watch OSU play a game to gather data on them on behalf of of the football team. But presumably you're allowed to just go to a game, so that begs the question of how you would prove that somebody was at a game at the instruction of his coach.

Well it's not exactly the vast CIA network of agents attending games with telephoto lenses and then employing military-grade codebreaking technology to decipher what the guy on the sidelines is signalling in. Although funny enough, the staffer in question is former military.

                              • I feel a lot better about this after reading up this morning. So the former Marine, Scalions, is an analyst who, you know... looks for vulnerabilities in an opponent, then relays that information to the coaching staff so they might be better prepared. You know... kind of like football. As far as I can tell he was getting his info from TV broadcasts and game film, not from going to game and filming sidelines. Sign stealing is perfectly legal unless you use electronic equipment to obtain the information. Game film and TV broadcasts are fair game.

Sounds like it could also be leaked from Dudek, the former Recruiting Coordinator who is rumored to be connected to Hambergergate.
