  • Oh, yeah. Good point.

    • They look like a dumpster fire, but we won't know for sure if Sparty has been completely broken until they head to Rutgers after their bye week. If they lose then it's virtually assured that all they have left is to create mayhem.

      • I think at the outset of the Sparty game, we'll get their best effort of the season. They'll want to be a spoiler to any dreams we have of the post season.

The danger comes when/if they fall behind and realize the game is over. That's when the stupid crap takes over.

        • Sparty has historically out-emotioned us or at least matched our intensity in almost every game since at least the mid-80s. But the exceptions have occurred in years when their coach has either gotten fired or was mentally checked out. Let’s see if that pattern holds this year. This could be one of those rare years where the players are checked out and just don’t give a shit, kinda like 2002 and 2006.

            • Not to mention, we host Texas next year as well. People can STFU about our schedule now.

Yep. Its going to be one of the toughest schedules in the nation.

And on top of that, we'll likely have a completely new team. JJ can leave, and likely will. Corum will be gone, as will a good chunk of the guys on the OL and DL. Michigan has 33 seniors. Plus any junior that wants to leave early.

And then, just for fun, the NCAA could basically hit Michigan with a mini death penalty by forcing Harbaugh's hand to leave for the NFL, which means a new HC and coaching staff.

                Not good.

We better get anything good this year, because it won't be happening next year at all.

                • Mini death penalty?

                  Comment

                  • I see it as a mini-death penalty because if the NCAA digs in its heels, and slams Harbaugh with an additional 3-4 game suspension, (and they are planning to change the rule on that to not allow ANY contact during the week of each game) then I could see Harbaugh flipping them the bird and leaving, along with a good portion of his staff. I see that as a mini-death penalty with the loss of the coaching staff, graduating and eligible players leaving, portal losses and other attrition. This team may be a shadow of its former self, next year at this time. It will take years to recover. In effect, a mini-death penalty, which the NCAA would love.

Yeah, a bit gloom and doom, but its possible. So anything good that the team wants is going to have to be accomplished this year, because its not happening for a while after this year.

                    • If he were to leave over frustration with the NCAA, they would have to announce a suspension/sanction by the end of the NFL season in early January when the coaching carousel begins. I'm not sure the wheels of NCAA justice move that quickly. When the original deal blew up this summer, indications were that it would take another year to complete the "investigation" and come up with a punishment. IOW, it will come down to timing. The longer it takes the NCAA to figure out what it wants to do, the more likely Harbaugh will be back next year.

Aside from the coaching aspect, we do lose a lot of roster talent. At least Williams, Nix, and Penix will all be gone, too.

                          • Warde should have been gone after 2020. I wish we could have Jim Hackett again.

                              • I don't know about Hackett's career at Ford, but he did an excellent job while he was at Michigan.
