Horrifying thought.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I've said this before but it's worth reiterating. CFB TV broadcasts have become unwatchable. The M/Iowa game was a horrible production among an expanding list of horrible productions.
If it wasn't for the reality that I love CFB, I wouldn't tune in. I think viewers, and probably the conferences that sign the TV deals, are knowingly being taken advantage of. If the broadcasters aren't exceeding the limits of the TV time outs (there are 4, 2 minute breaks allowed per quarter), they're close. There are mandatory and optional TV time outs - you can be sure Fox is taking all 16 minutes spread out 8 minutes per half, 32 minutes per game.
For a normal CFB game without any breaks between quarters and a 30 minute half time break, total game time should be 2.5 hours. Of course that has never been the viewer experience. We're seeing games still being played, without overtime, for 4h or sometimes more. What that means is you're getting exposed to at a minimum of 90 fucking minutes of commercials trying to sell you shit from cars to Depends. I think it's more than that and nobody is calling the broadcasters on it or I'm not aware of conferences, who should be doing this actually doing it.
Starting in 2018, the NFL cut commercial breaks from 10 per half to 8. I'm not sure CFB followed that change but the NFL undertook it to shorten the games and they are getting them played in around 3 hours. College games, as I noted above, are now going over 4h on the regular. With commercial breaks, quarters are taking around 30 minutes to be played and I think my sense is that feels about right. a 15 minute quarter of football should take 23 minutes with 4, 2 minute TV time outs. If it is taking 30 minutes - and I think it is - broadcasters are screwing viewers and conferences by adding what amounts to 7 minutes per quarter that is probably exceeding what's allowed in the TV contract.
The breaks cripple a teams rhythm and momentum and leave players who are completely warmed up, cool down increasing the chances of injury when play resumes. I'm sick of it. The live-in stadium experience isn't better. Nor are the soaring ticket, food and beverage prices (another subject). I feel helpless to do anything about it. The people in charge of these out of control things won't do anything as long as people keep watching, attending live games and buying $18 burgers so, everyone is screwed, fans who do attend live are wrongly paying for over-priced tickets, food and beverages and subsidizing ridiculous amounts of advertising. Players and coaches end up standing around with their thumbs up their asses for way too long.
FUX (no that is not a typo) has become the worst produced CFB broadcaster of them all with Disney and all it's broadcasters not far behind. I'm pretty sure that during the Iowa M game, I missed a couple of plays in separate series because of a late to return to action by the cameras following a TV time out. Not entirely sure as I lost track of how many servings of Vodka I had poured myself 😋.
Far worse is the producers selection of shots. Why the fuck do I care about seeing close ups of players or coaches faces or the backs of their uniforms. I don't care to see stupidly dressed and behaving fans. This is especially true when the cut to the camera showing live action is late or the camera is inappropriately zooming out or in making it impossible to see the pre-snap formation or follow the play itself. Mind blowing.
End of rant.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
