Bronxblue's Best and Worst: OSU at mgo is worth a read. He spends some time talking about his own emotions over the two decade long disappointment that was M football and how this win was not just a win against OSU. It certainly was that but it was so much more. Anyone who has become attached to M football in the way that most of us here and the fans in that video suggest felt unbridled joy last Saturday when the game ended with two Cade McNamara kneel downs. Great video. Captures it for me. Mike, wish I could have been there.

I have watched every Michigan game this season. For the first time in many years. I almost went to the HS State Finals rather than watch the M game. I decided not to when the snow started flying, and I didn't want to drive in metro Detroit on icy roads.
Glad I watched."in order to lead America you must love America"

From Eleven Warriors.......
Rarely, however, do the Buckeyes get completely beaten by both scheme and physicality in the same contest.
Jones is complementary of the Gattis game plan that appeared to account for a level ineffectiveness when Kerry Coombs was replaced by Matt Barnes. One of the things OSU has had trouble with is being consistently effective playing better opponents (worked fine with lesser opponents) with their base defense, 2-deep, 4-3 over alignment with the 3-technique defensive tackle and the cover safety/slot corner to the wide side of the field. Gattis called run play after run play, using counters and constraints that exploited the OSU LBs in this base formation.
Adding to OSU's LB woes, the M OL was beating 1 on 1s with OSU's DTs and DEs most of the time allowing gaps to develop that Haskins hit with regularity, picking up some of his longer gains when the inexperienced LBs were caught hesitating or got reached by M's OL. This prompted Matt Barnes to flip often from the C2, 4-3 over alignment to what OSU calls the 6-man pressure, hot blitz package. This puts the OSU secondary in a C3, 2 under and there's going to be an uncovered area underneath with this pressure package. With M's OL blowing up the OSU pressure package and McNamara able to survey the field from a clean pocket he found that uncovered area regularly with receivers adjusting into them on crossing routes for nice completions and gains. This was a key factor in keeping M on schedule, especially in the 2nd half, when 4 possessions netted 4 TDs and, if I've got this right, no third downs on any of them.
Have a look if you like Xs and Os. Great video cuts and clear explanations of what's happening in each.

This is from Mgo Brian's post game report. It crystalizes why Talent is so pissed at OSU defense. I didn't follow closely what prompted Kerry Coomb's ouster and replacement with Matt Barnes but whatever, it turned out to be a disaster in this game. After I read Eleven Warriors Film Study of the game, where OSU's D was identified and mistakes LBs made and were pointed out, I started thinking about the difference between M's defense in 2021 and how it seems like everyone knows what their roles are. Execution was spotty early on but near perfection v. OSU. Of course having Aiden Hutchinson helps.
That is a total of three players to the left of center and five to the right. Then the OSU line slanted to the top of the screen. The sheer number of plays I ran across where I ended up wondering "what the hell is that guy doing" is remarkable.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished.
