Speaking of, I heard someone on a sports talk show on XM JUST mention that Frost has had a grand total of 1 (one!) winning season in his entire career as a head coach (including this year, as well). I don’t know if it’s true or not, but that sounds less than optimal.

According to the Centre Daily Times (State College PA), DT Fred Hansard will be suspended for the first half of Saturday’s game against Michigan. He shoved the Maryland QB while out of bounds and the Big Ten called Franklin to ask what he was doing about it. Is Maryland that fragile it requires the BT intervention?

The 23rd-ranked Nittany Lions are in the top six nationally in red-zone defense and percentage of touchdowns allowed in the red zone. They held Maryland to two TDs in five tries Saturday.

M reportedly showed, for the first time, what could be described as counters to their inside power run game/Split Zone. There were two versions of it: (1) a pure stretch play to the field side with some of the best reach blocks seen to date, (2) a sort-of, well, this is going to look like that stretch play you just saw but, nope, Haskins is going to cut into the B gap that has either been vacated by pursing defenders expecting a stretch play or said defenders got reached.
What this highlights to me is that apparently it takes a lot of time to build in concepts like this and execute them correctly. We're in November and the late stages of the CFB season. I don't know if the expectation for Harbaugh's offense is that this stuff should show up a whole lot earlier in the season that it has. Maybe, maybe not. I can make a case for it takes a while and, moreover, it may be that given that, Harbaugh has focused on developing an offense that by late October and November, beating MSU, PSU and OSU.
Yes, the scoreboard told the story on MSU. M lost but did anyone think they played in a manner that demonstrated they were unprepared and didn't have some new stuff to display? On defense, I've seen the new scheme that McDonald implemented to keep McCully from throwing to Fryfogle - what has been described as purposely his only and first read - was that he was effectively double-covered and McCully doesn't have the skill set to deliver catchable 50/50 throws in double coverage. Expect to see this scheme against Jahan Dotson who supposedly will be Clifford's primary target. Clifford has that skill, supposedly. I haven't seen it which doesn't mean dick but still.
If M is able to run the ball effectively using some of the counters to their power game that just emerged v. IU and McNamara has a performance like he had v. MSU, I think M wins this one .......assuming randomness doesn't affect the outcome like it did v. MSU.
M 34 - PSU 23
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
