  • I think the mishandled punt snap is forgivable, because Robbins has been absolute money all season long in the punting game. In fact, one of the biggest bugaboos during the RRod/Hoke years was the bad kicking game, and now, its probably the best unit on the team. Robbins and Moody are the best kicking combo Michigan has had in decades. It just sucks that Robbins had his biggest mistake of the season against MSU instead of having it happen against someone like Northern Illinois.

I'm not backing off on the Big Ten's microscope approach in officiating when it comes to Michigan. Flags fly on E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. they see, on the road, and at home, while other teams get standard treatment. This also happens in the review booth. I still have NO doubt that the strip/fumble/TD would have been called differently if McNamara had been the QB involved. NO DOUBT. Its what Big Ten officials DO.

And after 67 years, I learned yesterday that the GROUND can assist a receiver in catching the ball. Amazing that it took me so long to learn that.

So, after Michigan loses to PSU and OSU again, I wonder what the bowl selection pooh-bahs will do to them? Lets see .. how about putting them up against the loser of the SEC Championship game? WOW! ... What great ratings THAT would bring!!!!!

The Spartans went down to Bloomington and had 14 penalties to 2 for the Hoosiers. It affected the score, penalties are a part of football. Michigan is the golden child of the Big Ten,l.

      • Penalties ARE a part of football. Ridiculously bad calls by the refs on the field and the booth are not. There were too many drive killing, impactful to the score bad calls. The two off the top of my head were the reversal of Thorne's Strip sack, fumble, TD was one and the other was the PI on Turner. The later blatantly wrong the former one that, IMO, and observers commenting in game on it, thought not enough evidence to overturn the call on the field with the line judge right fucking on top of it. I could add the MSU drive sustaining catch where the ground aided the catch but that kind of shit happens all the time and goes both ways.

Bad calls like this are not only unfair to the team that they go against but they create momentum changes and frustration on the sidelines - something I think had a deleterious impact on the state of mind of the players and coaches.

The major point of this is that the question of why the NCAA doesn't have professional referees and instead relies on a pool of part timers who have full time jobs somewhere else is just beyond me.

I do think that when M loses big games under Harbaugh it's because, like the lions, they manufacture execution errors and bad coaching calls when the game is competitive. But CFB refs continue to influence the outcome of critical games like this to an unacceptable level.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Thanks for the little middle finger salute there. Message received.

You were probably one of those rocket scientists that followed me at my last MSU game saying such nice things about my heritage. Good times.

The only golden child of the Big Ten resides in Columbus Ohio. Been that way since 2000.

Talk to yourself on the ignore list.

              • Of course...M is NEVER the beneficiary of a bad/wrong call. Ever.

Michigan has gotten some calls in their favor on occasion.

But I'll stand by my claim that no team is put under the officiating microscope more than Michigan. Michigan's history is full of examples where they've been screwed by the zebras.

I'm not even asking for Michigan to get home cooking. Leave that to PSU and OSU. All I'd like to see is down the middle. If you ignore holding with MSU, then ignore it with Michigan. If you are going to give MSU a ground-assisted pass reception, then give them to Michigan as well. If the review booth is going to help MSU out of a bad situation on the goal line, then help Michigan out too.

                  50/50

Wiz, you know as well as i do that there are people on these crews that have a hard-on for certain teams. They try to weed these people out, but they're not always successful due to many reasons, some of which are terribly unfair to others, who would be better in those positions. We've talked about this before. The Big Ten still has an officiating problem and they are dragging their feet in fixing the problems.

What you are saying is different than lineygoblue is saying. He is saying there is a systemic bias against Michigan. Almost every loss is because of the refs. It's like groundhog day. You have former Wolverine players consistently downplaying the Spartans before the game and the times you lose, it's the refs. Play the hits!

                    • What you are saying is different than lineygoblue is saying .......
                      Correct.

Refs doing CFB games do make horrendous, game changing errors, too often. That point leads to the finger pointing at the NCAA for allowing the conferences to hire, fire and manage their refs like they do. It's a country club. Some are good but there are too many incompetent bad apples making bad calls. That needs to be fixed in the modern era of high stakes, monied, as close as you can get to pro-minor league ball, CFB. That's what Im saying.

                      • To me I think the strip sack overturn shouldn't have been an overturn. Not enough to overturn. The other replay reviews were legit.

The similarities are there, Jon. He wastes and mismanages more talent than any other coach in Michigan football history.

Even Brady Hoke got, and still gets, more from his players than Harbaugh does. As of yesterday, Hoke is still undefeated at SDSU. I didn't see the score from yesterday's game.
