Even if M beats Sparty, I still consider the Penn State game to be 50-50 because the game is in Happy Valley. Assuming Clifford is healthy and playing. M 10-2 with a loss to Penn State and Ohio State is a possibility.
But correct. The winner of M vs Sparty has a shot to play in the Rose Bowl. The loser is more likely to be eliminated from a Rose Bowl opportunity.
    That's big!

Eh, whatever. All that matters right now is beating Sparty tomorrow!

Look, you're just not getting it. Of course your better off but looking at the numbers I presented about the MSU offense, they are 103 in third down conversions and yet ranked 29th in scoring tells me they don't use sustained drives to score, they use big plays. WTF does it tell you?

Your posts remind me of Ali's rope-a-dope act. It looked good and got him through some tough fights but it was an introduction of finesse to heavy weight pro-boxing that didn't much impress anyone except the sports press. He avoided taking the big punch and losing a match.
Bryce Baringer was the MVP of that Nebraska game and Nebraska couldn't punt worth a shit. You might need to watch games more than perusing fancy stats and the Mgoblog.

You're forcing the Ali analogy, it isn't applicable and Ali fought 50 years ago. Get out of the 70s.

      • The maddening thing about this game is that M almost ALWAYS underdelivers.
That's another stupid statistic that needs to get corrected.

I'll say it does tomorrow. Sparty gets exposed to the tune of 28-13.

And we can all join Linesman in expecting Indiana to beat M next week.

        • I turned 21 in 69 and got commissioned in the USMC in 70. Had already been drinking beer in Widsor for 4y years (and anywhere else that would take fake ID in Michigan). The 70s were great. I graduated from M with a degree in Bridge playing and completed a 400 level course in drinking. Got my Wings of Gold (Naval Aviator) at the start of that decade and started a 20y career flying fighters all over the world and off aircraft carriers.

...... and you're right about Baringer. I missed that. I did check in for the MSU/Neb game but I can't say I watched it. My apologies.

On Ali ......I think it works. He invented the rope-a-dope and float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. He brought an athleticism to pro-boxing - a big man that could move AND punch. Liston represented the old school. Huge guy that couldn't move but had a power house left hook. So, yeah, you're pretty good at avoiding taking a big hit mostly by misreading or reinterpreting what I post.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

          • Tom - I think M will handle Indiana in AA next week, no matter how the MSU game goes. In fact, a M loss to MSU might be bad news for the Hoosiers because M would likely be pretty hot about losing (again) to Sparty.

And, Tom Allen's impersonation of James Franklin has worn thin in Bloomington. All emotion, little action.

            • Much has been made (rightfully so) about MSU's big play capability. Looking over Michigan's stats I was reminded that we have several as well.

Baldwin has TD catches of 69 and 56 (both from McCarthy). Bell had a 76 yard TD (only catch of the season, goddamnit). Johnson has an 87 yard TD catch. Michigan has 4 different players with a run of over 50 yards with Henning leading the way with a 74 yard TD. Corum has a 67 yard TD run.

Neither team has played anyone very good. The difference is Michigan has been much better at sustaining drives. In a rock fight type of game that might be the difference.

Michigan has also only given up 3 sacks and thrown one INT on the season. If they can continue to play mistake-free (relatively) and be efficient on offense, I like their chances.

The biggest problem is what Tom said. Michigan rarely seems to be as jacked up as their rivals are in these games. Hopefully that is changing.

              • Been busy this week so haven't had time to weigh in yet on this one. I think the M defense is good enough to limit Walker to reasonable yards, He'll get some, but not a 100 yard game tomorrow. That puts it up to Thorne, who is a pretty good quarterback. He will hit a couple of deep shots, but the DJ Turner coming on at cornerback, I think we are less vulnerable there than we were earlier in the season. Playing more zone will also help us. I also think Hutchinson and Ojabo will get to Thorne. Might not be a lot of sacks, but the hits will pile up. With how vanilla Michigan played against Northwestern, I think they spent both weeks work on plays specifically for MSU. I don't think Sparty will be able to hold off our running back tandem and Cade will hit just enough shots to keep the ball moving. What I'm really hoping and praying for, is that Michigan has worked up some packages for JJ and put him in to both run and throw (throw first to shock sparty who will be looking for the run).

                I'm thinking something like

                Michigan: 27
                Sparty: 21

                Go Blue!

You should put up a plaque celebrating that in your restaurant. They did get a 1st down in overtime on the Pepcat no less.
