    Sad Arrested Development GIF

    Good game Michigan State. Congrats.
Sucks ... M blowing that 30-14 lead. I felt like the lead should have been larger because there were a few blown opportunities. Corum dropped pass. False start on 4th down. Refs taking away that M TD at the end of the 1st half.
McNamara played the game of his life until the end. The M defense was god awful between the 37 points given up and the substitutions problems that continue to haunt the team. I was going to mention the substitutions issue yesterday, but left it out of my post. Now everyone realizes it's still an issue.

As for Harbaugh ... he is what he is. Can beat the bad/ mediocre teams. Poor record vs good teams. M needs to decide if their is another head coach that can do better.

    For whatever it's worth:

    • He might have been hurting from that corner blitz. Really one of the only times State got to him.

      • Ouch.

A little Mike Macdonald discussion to add. Macdonald has done a few nice things. M no longer blatantly gets destroyed by crossing routes for example.
It's obvious there are some growing pains for the 34 year old first time DC because M's defense frequently looks sloppy and confused. Overall for the season? Not good, not terrible (AKA Greg Robinson). M's defense is one of the big reasons M lost today*. I question some play calls on defense too. MSU ran a wildcat play with Walker picking up a 1st down. M's defense only had 6 people in the box on that play. Like WTF? You have no shot there on that play.

M for the rest of the season.
Expect M to beat IU and Maryland. Penn State is iffy, but pay attention to Clifford's health. I validate all M sandbaggery towards the game vs OSU.

I kick Talent in the cajoles.

            Does the trick.

              • Michigan had 552 yards of offense and didn’t allow a third down conversion on defense until the 4th quarter…. and lost. It’s maddening. The one constant is the head coach. 10-2 doesn’t matter when you lose to MSU and OSU every year. Fuck all this.

                • I'm thinking I was happier watching football before the internet message forum...before that I'd just go walk the dog after a loss, complain to myself and then move on w/the day. Now I read everyone else's miserable comments and think that yea, that's me too. I know, don't read...maybe I should just do banking online, even that's iffy these days.

                  • This is a bad loss. It condemns the coaching staff - in the moment - more than the players who I thought played up to their talent levels. Anthony is a stud. M's RZ play calling is responsible for 4 FGs that two of them, at least, should have been TDs. I'm pretty sure Gattis is making the in game play calls and McNamara appeared to have some latitude with the play book but I have no doubt Harbaugh's hand is heavy in pre-game planning. McNamara was the other MVP along with Anthony and Hutchinson. He was terrific and well prepared for what MSU does and doesn't do well.

M got jobbed on a couple calls but I won't put that loss on the refs. McDonald may have had some bad defensive calls but I can't be sure if it was him or Ross getting the defense into the right play and coverages. KWIII is the best back in the country right now. His yards after contact are simply amazing. I have a hard time blaming M's tackling. He was bottled up repeatedly and wiggled his way out for big plays. Great players do that and he was a major contributor with that great play to MSU's win.

I also thought, overall, M's back end played pretty well. Coverage was excellent. On the INT to end the game, coverage was there. An amazing play by the S to pick that off. The bottom line for me, outside some of the first half coaching calls in the RZ that produced FGs instead of TDs, is that MSU made more plays than M made. M had some execution issues and bad penalties that's on the players, not the coaches. In a big game those are key. In the second half when the game was clsoe, those mistakes are killer.

I'm with Talent on this, Hard to understand how M lost that game. They had control at 30-14, lost it on some great playmaking by MSU, momentarily regained it at 33-22 but it was clearly MSU that made the big plays, executed better than M and made fewer mistakes down the stretch. It's pretty simple.

On the bright side, this is a good football team that is 7-1. They plaid a very good, fired up, well coached team in their house. Fans were ridiculously supportive and a factor. M lost. Not the end of the season. There's nothing stopping M from entering the OSU game at 10-1 against an OSU team that is also 10-1. I don't buy that they can't do that and I'm seeing it all over the internet. It's a shame that Harbaugh has amassed the shitty record against our rivals he has and failed to beat top 10 teams he faces. He's not a big game coach but he's got a chance to beat PSU and OSU to finish the season. Regroup.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
