    • Joe Milton has officially entered the transfer portal.

I wish him well. I guess he feels that he's not going to get past McNamara and McCarthy.

If he's not confident that he can get past them, then how could he expect to lead the team to a win in a place like Columbus or Least Lansing? Apparently, he needs to find an easier road to a starter's job.

When he played against Minnesota, I figured that he was the guy. I was excited to see him blossom into the next great QB at Michigan. Instead, he did nothing but spiral downward after that game.

Again, I don't wish him anything bad, I'm just disappointed that he didn't seem to have the confidence to hang in there with Michigan.

      Best wishes to him.

      • I liked his play until the Wisky game. He just fell apart then and was never the same.

        • Milton had a Poor Man's Cardale feel. He could really stretch the field and make throws that other QBs just couldn't make. But, he was and is inaccurate.

Cade reminds me of JTB in terms of the throws he's going to make. I highly doubt he's able to stretch the field and eventuallly teams will squeeze him down (they were starting to that after Rutgers). I really don't fear him in the least.

And McCarthy is a true frosh.

Unfortunately, they'll probably cobble together a defense that isn't a total disaster namely because Don Brown is gone. Bummer.

          • This pretty much clears the way for Cade to be the starter. Its likely his job to lose. McCarthy has a lot of hype, but unless he just dazzles everyone, I don't see him starting. The pickings are a bit slim after that. They can't afford any major injuries at QB.

            • After the Wisconsin debacle, I read an article that explained why Milton looked good v. Minny but terrible against Wisconsin. It boiled down to differences in the two DCs and how they deployed their defenses, Wisconsin's being exponentially better than Minnesota's that played a very vanilla scheme. Contrast that with an experienced Wisky D that confused the hell out of M's receivers and Milton. End M's passing offense and we all know the run game hasn't been able to overcome such failures for, oh, as long as I can recall M football being shitty.

                  • Was Gentry a Harbaugh recruit? I was thinking he was already in the pipeline. Still not a sterling endorsement of Jim’s QB recruiting... or at least QB development.

                    • Villari should have started in Columbus if M didn’t save HARBAUGH!!!!’s ass.

                      • It's actually worse. There was a 247 article - terribly written as it was - that noted Harbaugh, in his 6 seasons at M has not recruited and developed one QB in the traditional sense of the meaning of that. They all either transferred in or transferred out. He has one QB that amounted to anything - Jake Ruddock, a journeyman transfer from Iowa who was solid if not unspectacular. The rest have been either spectacularly awful, utilized in a offense ill-suited to their skill set or pedestrian in every aspect of the game or a combination of any of these. You cannot have that if you want to win championships and firing OCs and DCs, moving staff around to coach different position groups, none of that can make up for this singular, glaring failure of Jim Harbaugh as HC of M football.

To put it mildly, Jim Harbaugh, the supposed QB whisperer, has been a massive failure in recruiting and developing arguably the most important player on a football team. Why we have to put up with him as HC of Michigan football for another season is simply a reflection of the dumbfuckery of Ward Manuel continuing a long tradition of it. A football program with the traditions, money and facilities like M has has to really try to be as terrible at the game of football that it is.

With that in mind, Warde Manuel signed a 5 year extension of his contract at Michigan today.

                              • In what is now an apparent "F-U" move, Ben VanSumren committed today to MSU. VanSumren entered the transfer portal less than a month ago. Look for little brother Alex to follow him to MSU.

Ben VanSumeren, the former UM linebacker who entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month, announced on Saturday that he had committed to MSU.
