  • If this all unfolds to be another excuse then it will prove beyond a doubt that we've been played for fools.

That pretty much sums up everything that is 2020..

    • Here’s an update as of this morning.

      • So, the question remains. What "medical data" is being used to determine if BT football is played or not? If the vote is to not play, I don't want to hear, its not safe to play. WHY??? The data is available, tons of it. I want to know how the data informed a decision to not play? I'm hoping that the pressure is kept up. Its pretty clear that the decision to not play last month likely didn't hold up to scrutiny when informed folks started asking hard questions....... "because" as an excuse should be mercilessly condemned and rejected in every available public forum.

              • More accurately: The Big Ten will announce that they will (plan to) play football in October.

                  • It's been the rumor for days. Unfortunately, they are fucking around announcing it and god only knows what sort of shitshow it'll look like when they announce.

I'll believe the B10 plays in October when I see the B10 playing October. This gaggle of asstwits have tunneled well-below my lowest expectations. I would gladly exit the conference today.

                      • What's frustrating about this process is that football fans, players, coaches and ADs are kept in the dark. Ultimately, it's the president's decision and the process of getting there and how a play or don't play decision is reached by the presidents is, so far, been a secret. No expert here on the legalities of these things but last week, in response to the Neb law suit, a judge ordered the the Big Ten to produce documents related to decisions made to postpone fall sports. They did - a ton of it redacted.

I haven't seen the law suit or the judges order but there has been a couple of articles detailing some of the specifics and the Big Ten isn't giving up much - the medical information and public health data upon which the president's made their decision that it "wasn't safe to play sports" is one of the details the judge did not ask for ..... "too burdensome" she reportedly said. Bull-shit. That's at the heart of controversy.

Look, this is easy. If you want to say that the CDC discourages gatherings - and football players are gathering to play a football game - when community spread is present, then fucking say it and own it. But if you're going to red-light games, the data damn well better show that R(t) is >1 and rising and that the positivity rate of new cases is > 5% for the 2 weeks prior in cities where stadiums are present and where games will be played. Green light it if it isn't.

NOTHING LESS than a fact based decision making process using at least these two data points makes this OK for me. It's two measures of community spread. It is a moving target though, so, schedule the games and make a decision about going forward with them on an individual basis on Thursdays. That's exactly what they looked like they were going to do and should have done a month ago before Warren's colossal fuck-up at the behest of the presidents.

TBH, you know how I feel about any data taken in isolation but using these two data points makes decisions at least defensible even if you don't agree with just using just tow of them and I don't. That's because I'd go further before green or red lighting games. For example, if you wanted more data points to play or not, look at other metrics that measure disease burden. If you want to do a risk/benefit/cost assessment then add that in. We've not seen that being done anywhere that I am aware of - yet, but were getting there as the fucking COVID light bulb goes on among the officialdom.

The BT Front Office, U presidents and Chancellors? I don't expect those pussies to be rational and I am therefore not at all optimistic.

                        .

                        • Milwaukee Journal ran an article that says BT football is on. A tweet by Jeff Potrykus is quoted in Isaiah Hole of Wolverine Wire piece that the decision was leaked but not yet formally announced. Details sketchy but it will be an 8 game schedule played over 9 weeks, BTC 12/19. There's some flexibility to push the schedule start to 10/24 and eliminate the bye week if COVID a problem .... that part doesn't make sense but, it's a start.

                          Golf clap.

                          • Why wait so long to start? Everyone is already practicing. You should be able to go in a few weeks, tops. It's not as if you have to employ a ton of stadium people if the stands are empty.

                            • It’s a fucking shitshow. Rarely are Iowa and Nebraska right, let alone BOTH right, but here we are. If the rest of this asseating conference had followed Ohio State’s lead then we’d be getting ready to play. Fuck this conference.
