For sure. Whenever I raise this point in discussions with friends - and this discussion involves the entire question of reopening not just sports - I get a ton of push-back. The argument of those opposed to reopening follows this sort of logic: reopenings beget increased social contact that begets an uptick in new cases and that increases the risks across all age groups of serious illness and/or death.

The fearful - for lack of a better term - offering this argument don't seem to want to listen to and take into account risk stratification by age, i.e., typically upticks in new cases are occuring, if they occur at all, among age groups whose risk of hospitalization are miniscule. Then, I'll add the vulnerable can be protected while the rest of us go about our business. They don't want to hear that and revert to a micro level saying, schools, for example, shouldn't reopen because I don't wan MY kids to get this thing and bring it home to grandpa whose living with them. It's sort of a NIMBY argument that avoids looking at the common sense of the bigger picture at the macro level. It does no good to try to elevate the discussion to that level and then include the immense social and economic costs of continuing the craziness.

What this is telling me is that the folks are listening and taking in the media's COVID narrative without any question of it's accuracy. Contributing is the cluster-fuck at all levels of government in formulating sensible PH policy and then correctly messaging it's objectives.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

      • Lol when Rutgers votes "no." ... because of course Rutger will vote no to playing football. ... for "COVID reasons."

Games will be played, games will be cancelled/ rescheduled. It appears like MLB will make it through their entire season. Come on B10, do it.

Yeah, that's exactly right. The Cowering will, when confronted with any statement of extremely low risk, always bend it back to the something along those lines -- "well, sure (admission), BUT...grandpa!"

That's the argument. My response, as well as yours, is that we know who is at-risk and who isn't and we ought to be taking explicit, targeted measures to protect the at-risk while also taking easy, virtually no-cost general measures (masks). The military analogy is using a smart missile to target a munitions factory in Baghdad or just deciding to nuke the whole city.

Right. And, btw, major kudos to MLB. There were people who wanted to whole damn thing canceled when StL and Miami went down. But, they stuck to their guns, played through it and now look like they're going to have some vague semblance of a season.

CFB games have been and will continue to get canceled. The only question is whether you're going to let that stop you from playing. In short, are you a giant pussy or not?

              • It’s today or tomorrow. Everyone expects October 17 start with 8 or 9 games.

                • Outstanding. Glad they’re coming to their senses. Wonder if the BigTen’s lapdog, the PAC-12, follows suit.

                        • The latest press release I saw said 72 hours, so I guess that would put it somewhere around late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Harbaugh said about a week ago that he thought it was possible that they'd be kicking off in mid-October. He may have known more than he let on at the time.

Mid-October means that a 8-game season would end sometime in mid-December, with the CCG around Christmas. M vs OSU on December 19 in Columbus? Bring your winter clothes, if fans are allowed. I imagine at least some fans will be allowed, but not the traditional 100K +

Personally, I wish they'd schedule M vs OSU in Columbus on the first week. That's the marquee game of the conference, and it would guarantee that it gets played. It would be the top game of the weekend nationwide.

Bowls could be played in January, about a week later than normal, I suppose. Probably not as many bowls as normal though.

As for the Pac 12, I think there is a 50% chance that they'll come along with the Big Ten, but I could also see them opting to stay out. All those WC governors are jerks. And I'm being nice when I say that.
