Hard to overcome that.

But when it comes to current civil unrest and the narrative that the U.S. is a blatantly racist and awful country, well... the data analysis seems to have flown out the window. It's the ultimate "feelingsball" argument and the nerdy data miners that break down every single play of a football game like its the Zapruder film have nary a word to say otherwise.
Yeah pretty much this. It's almost even worse than that since some of this stuff is just so in-your-face obvious that you have to spend effort to willfully ignore it (e.g. Jacob Blake shooting).

    • Harbaugh told his players today that they could be playing by mid-October. Not sure what he's basing that on, but maybe there are things going on behind the scenes to make it happen.

They overcame a mini-hurdle today when Whitmer issued an EO to allow gyms and pools to reopen with certain restrictions, and it also allows contact sports, again under certain restrictions. As I noted elsewhere, the MHSAA immediately started gearing up for a September 18 kickoff date for a 6 game regular season. If she's allowing that, maybe there is still a chance for Michigan and MSU to play fall football this year. I wouldn't risk money on it, but maybe there is some hope.

I don't think this will affect the MAC schools in Michigan. I believe they've all shut down their football operations for the year.

I don't think Harbaugh accepts it AT ALL, and that obsession has been his undoing- especially after the screw job in Columbus. In the last two years, they entered with legitimate chances of winning, but were overly amped up. They tried TOO hard, started making mistakes and ended up getting broiled.

        • FWIW that Penn State doctor I posted about yesterday has completely backtracked and essentially admitted he didn't know what he was talking about. Additionally, Penn State says that none of their athletes have been found to have myocarditis

              Shocking!

Thanks for the re-post on the MD's mea-culpa, DSL.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Has there even been a stretch in the history of the series where it has been this one sided? I was born in 1980 so I don't really concern myself with what happened all the way back to 1897 or whatever (how awesome by the way would it be to take a Delorean and go back to freaking 1897 to see what the first Michigan-Ohio State game felt like in the stands...lol).

Michigan had the really nice 10-2 stretch or whatever against Cooper but now that amazingly pales in comparison to what has happened the past 15 or 16 seasons. I used to have this visceral hatred for the Buckeyes growing up as we were all taught to do early as Michigan fans, but during this stretch they've beaten the Wolverines into submission so thoroughly that I weirdly don't even hate them that much anymore. Maybe that's also a product of me just growing up and realizing that at the end of the day that it's just a game and it's kind of dumb to hate someone just because they're wearing a scarlet & grey Ohio State sweatshirt when I don't even know them -- but it's like you said about accepting it also. I just have accepted that, at least during this era, they are just a two levels above as a program. I tip my hat to them.

A few years ago I was at the airport wearing my Michigan pullover and a family of Ohio State fans walked by me and started jabbing me (in a very friendly way though) and I think they kind of expected me to at least talk some friendly trash back to them, but I was just like "hey what can I say, you guys own us". I mean seriously there's absolutely nothing I can say at this point. Unless I want to desperately and pathetically bring up the only thing we can cling to anymore, which is the overall head to head (that's evaporating rapidly)...and about 70 of those games were played before I was even born, lol.

                • OSU is 23-16-1 against Michigan in my lifetime. Still blows my mind that it's 17-2 since Cooper got fired.

I don't want to solely pick on them... I'm sure several (college***) sports forums have taken a dark turn since March. Particularly, if you don't have any games to talk about!

I've been following Michigan since the late 60's. In the mid-60's I was a huge MSU fan, because of Duffy Daugherty. Everybody in the state loved Duffy. All the kids my age wanted to play for him. He was a great coach, and the last really great MAN they've had as HC over there since he retired.

As for the Michigan v OSU series, I've seen it swing both ways. Bo and Woody pretty much traded wins, with Bo getting the advantage at the end of Woody's career. Bo and Earle Bruce also traded wins, and Moeller did the same. Carr owned Cooper, but then fell on his face against Tressel when Henson was snatched away by OSU grad George Steinbrenner. Since then, Michigan has pretty much nose dived. I've never seen anything like it in the series. I think the longest winning streak by either team that I saw before Carr/Cooper was a 3 game streak by Bo in the late 70's. OSU has more than made up for the Cooper years, and there is no end in sight.

As I stated before, there doesn't seem to be much of a sense of urgency around State Street to change things. Warde Manuel has repeatedly stated that he is well satisfied with Harbaugh's performance, both on and off the field. Recruiting is decent, but not outstanding. Game days vs OSU have been a disaster for the most part. Back in the day even when Michigan lost, they'd give OSU a beating that took them weeks to recover from. Just ask Archie Griffin. Not so nowadays.

So I've accepted what has become acceptable to the people that make decisions on State Street. Participation trophies are the goal. That goal is being met consistently.

                        • The Minnesota-Wisconsin rivalry is sort of comparable to Michigan-OSU.

Wisconsin leads all-time 61-60-8 but that's only because they have dominated the past 25 years. Since 1995 Minnesota has only won 3 times. Minnesota dominated back before WWII

                            • Back in the days of my grandpa, Michigan vs Minnesota was the "big" game every year. That rivalry got so heated at one point that both schools agreed to stop playing each other for a while just so everyone would cool off. The Little Brown Jug came out of that rivalry.
