If the bylaws forbid it, then maybe there's something there. Although by joining the conference they probably agreed to abide by majority vote and all that.

Thinking about it though if Nebraska or Iowa decided to go ahead with its own hastily cobbled-together fall schedule, it'd mess up any chance of holding a 10-game winter/spring season (which prob won't end up happening either but theoretically)

    • The Spring thing is just curious. Play in the Spring and have a season starting in September. I just don’t know.

I think there will be a 4-6 game season probably 4 games. That would allow for the young players to get 4 games in without burning a red shirt. Make it geography based. In essence you have a souped up spring practice and it should allow enough time (if you have a later start) for bodies to rest and recoup?
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

Meanwhile I’m watching Ohio High School football. Live. Yeah, Ohio high schools can play but not Ohio State.

Fuck Kloubachar. Fuck Whitmer. Fuck Warren. Fuck the politics. Fucking disgraceful. DISGRACEFUL.

          Leave the conference. Now.

            • Yep. But there’s no way B10 teams could figure out a way to play. Oh, and btw, Ohio covid is increasingly in control. Yet, here we are.

              I want out. Fuck them.

I concur. And take MSU with you.

But I share your sentiments regarding the foolishness of the decision made.

Here in Michigan the MHSAA says they're going to try and have HS football in the spring. They say they'll have playoffs and a state championship game as usual.

So, that means you have to have 15 weeks, including the championship game. You CAN-NOT play HS football in Michigan in January or February. So, the EARLIEST they can start is MAYBE mid-March, but even that is precarious. Some of our worst ice storms in state history have taken place in March. Go 15 weeks from mid-March, and you have a State Final taking place at the end of June. How are they going to do that with the rest of spring sports going on?

Its a mess. They at least should have TRIED to get the season started in the fall. The other fall sports are being played. It just doesn't make any sense.

                            • Globally, there is a baked in response to an increase in COVID cases. It is political, not scientific - or at least not fully. Virologists can argue, and not incorrectly, that viral spread can only be contained by limiting the hosts contacts/mobility. I'm almost certain this was Schlissel's line to a closed gathering of Presidents and probably medical yes-men that wouldn't fight this view and provide reasonable alternatives to it. Whitmer was likely to also be a player in this gamut. It was a set up to close out dissent. Kevin Warren's role, as has been pointed out, was to simply carry the president's water. His larger role was to convince the P12 Commissioner, Bob Bowlsby to go along with him hoping the rest of the P5 would fall in line. They didn't and now both of them have a problem

While this view may explain how the BT's decision to cancel fall sports probably went down, it doesn't make it any easier for me or the rest of us here I assume to swallow it. I could see Neb and osu leaving the conference for the Big12 and ACC/SEC respectively if they could pull it off. Makes sense in the face of the incredible stupidity involved in the BT's decision greatly influenced by a baked in political, globally accepted response to the pandemic.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                              • I really don't think Warren was just carrying water. It's not entirely confirmed, but reporting has it as roughly 4 schools deadset on cancellation; 4-5 schools deadset on playing and 4-5 schools in between. Warren, IMO, pushed for cancellation. Warren, IMO, pushed to get the undecideds to cancellation. Period. There was never a specific vote, either.

If he wanted to play, the B10 would be playing in some form. I don't have any doubt about that. None.

If he wanted to play they would have let the schools that wanted to play -- play -- and still split revenues amongst everyone.

If he wanted to play, they would have had protocols and specific gated responses and a slightly pushed back season.

HE. DIDN'T. WANT. TO. PLAY. PERIOD.

He's a fucking bitch. FUCK. HIM.
