    Whitley,

How many positives on a team versus how many in the general student body attending class. As long as the mean is similar, cancelling is foolish. Maybe +0.5 std dev on tested vs tested in the two groups.

The math needs to be decided on, and can be argued, but keeping players in a bubble and on the team is probably at safer on campus with no football or structure and arguably as safe as them being at home in their community.

AA, good try. Does not compute among hand wringers.

Even for the strongest supporters of the US's public health strategy, it's getting harder and harder to argue the current COA in the nation, state to state or county to county is the best path forward.

Even though the data is flawed, I do believe that many locals are experiencing community spread. It's the baked in reaction to it that is flawed. Shuttering and restricting mobility works but (1) the cost is too great assessed in the context of the virus's morbidity and mortality and considering age stratification of disease burden. (2) When employing the current strategy, as soon as you inevitably open again, even under the best of circumstances, the virus will find naive hosts to infect and community spread will return at some level with geometric progress portending it will be at a high rate.

Time to stop shuttering and immobilizing as the standard response to community spread. Next (1) shift from the current testing strategy and tools to available rapid testing at greatly increased scale using available technology to trace/track and (2) manage outcomes. It's not hard.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I was going to say -- it rivals Neville Chamberlain's "peace in our time".

People actually believed Chamberlain for a while- and he had the decency to step down when he was proven to be woefully wrong.

Indeed, people believed him. People who hadn't read the first page of Mein Kampf or confronted the uncomfortable truth that Hitler was a warmonger who was going to have to be defeated by force sooner or later. It was a combination of wishful thinking and cowardice. Kind of like cancelling the B1G football season. I pray that at least one conference plays so that history can accurately record what a terrible decision it was to cancel.

So some dude on Twitter who claims to be pals with a P5 AD says that the B1G is going to announce a course reversal within days.

Sounds like QAnon type bullshit to me but here's to hoping. Tons of other Tweeters are calling bullshit, but he's fully standing by it.

They don't have the balls to reverse course. And even if they did, I doubt that all teams would play. Count out Rutgers for sure, and probably Maryland alongside them.

A long shot but can't rule it out. I'm hedging towards it's happening although Liney has been right more than not. I have a feeling Kevin Warren's inbox is full of a lot of non-serious hate mail but on top of the stack there are very likely some heavy hitters weighing in that are letting Warren know he has no safe ground to stand on over the cancellation.

Kevin Warren likely spends every waking moment right now praying to God that the other conferences do not play. He and his fellow intellectual lightweight colleagues will be exposed as the B1G's Neville Chamberlains if they do. If nobody else plays, he can always claim that he did the right thing.

Yeah, "Hope" and "Change" were big back then - as they were when Hitler got into power in the first place. Thankfully, knocking over statues and rioting are good ways of making people forget how less woke types did such stupid things back in the1930s

If there is a reversal Warren won't be there anymore. No way that can happen and him stay as commish. No way.

No Rutgers or Maryland? Oh no...what would we do?

If the UNC reaction to positive tests is any indication, there's no way that football will happen anywhere. The University Presidents have secure paychecks and they have to put on a put up the appearance of being "socially responsible" or whatever phrase they want to use. The quality of life for their students and the quality of education that they receive is totally irrelevant.

Well at UNC-Chapel Hill didn't they get 136 positives out of the 1k they tested which suggests two things. 1) they need more testing and 2) a 13.6% positive rate could also suggest that it is a possible outbreak.

Football might start in Jan for the Big Ten. 8 game season. It would end the end of Feb and article makes it sound like it might be a bubble.
