I imagine the Mgo folks are about to lose their collective minds. That's a real shame.

Meanwhile, against all odds, Ohio completes it's third week of high school football. Surely next week will be the week we all die.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Yes. And yes. The site started as the signature fan-run stats-based analysis blog for CFB. He survived RichGOD (adamantly defending the hire to the end), he survived Hoke > Saban (adamantly opposed to the hire from the beginning) and was broken by HARBAUGH!!!! and, in particularl, 2016 and 2018. I guess I should say he was broken by UFM.
The problem with the site and the message boards is the Brian is a Cult of Personality it permeates everything. That was annoying but understandable when it was a sports blog. It's unreadably awful as he's more or less given up on football and transitioned to politics.
The reason, I suppose, people still mention it is that it was, at one point in time, really good. Or rather, I really liked it. But, for reasons better put by other M posters, it's just not anymore. It's garbage. As an example -- I periodically read the M 247 forums (where the legendary Sam Webb posts). They're a garden variety fan forum. I wouldn't notice or care if they somehow slipped because they were never any good to begin with (same, btw, with the Bucknuts 247 site).Last edited by iam416; September 14, 2020, 07:14 AM.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth (assuming the Big Ten decides to play fall football), but why wait until October 17th? That will be five weeks from this past Saturday's games and 3 weeks later than the SEC's start. As far as I know, most programs have been practicing this whole time anyway. It's not like they're starting from scratch. 5 more weeks gives them too much time to change their minds again. My cynical side thinks the BT will announce a 10/17 start while hoping and praying the ACC collapses so they can pull the plug for good whilst lecturing everyone about how smart and virtuous they are.

You're looking a gift horse in the mouth AND assuming some sort of level of competence from an organization that has, heretofore, displayed only absolute incompetence. Whatever happens this week, I still think it'll be a miracle if they actually play in October.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

If you guys do play, you can send your thank-you cards directly to the SEC. They were expecting us to cancel after you did, and the fact that we didn’t (and to a lesser degree the ACC and BigXII) put pressure on the BigTen and its leadership.

But, as you noted, I think they are building in more time so that they can see if the conferences that ARE playing start having outbreaks that will justify their previous actions. If that happens, they can vote again, and put a permanent kabosh on the whole season, which is what they have wanted to do from the beginning. This would allow them (in their minds) to appease those that have pushed back on their decision, and say, "Hey, we tried, but look at what happened to ______"
I'll believe the Big Ten is playing when two teams meet in a real stadium, and they kick the darn football."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"
