I am on record in here as supporting Whitmer's early efforts (February-March) to contain the virus. It hit Detroit and the surrounding area as hard as it did in Italy. Those were some scary days for everyone, regardless of politics.
But now that we've learned more, and the people in Michigan have actually been fantastic in their mitigation efforts, she's now using the state of emergency to rule the state so that nobody can oppose anything she does. She's basically laid off the Legislature and is running the state all by herself by executive orders.
She went on record back in May (I believe) and stated she was "not optimistic" that ANY kind of sports would be taking place in Michigan before the end of the year. She hasn't budged from that POV. She's got MSU in her back pocket, M and Schlissel on board, and she's intimidated the snot out of the MHSAA to where they're afraid to take a breath without asking for her permission first. I'm actually surprised that the Lions are going to play. I guess maybe the Ford family actually has a bit of backbone after all.
Whitmer is going to be a roadblock to football in Michigan until she finally relinquishes total control of the state thru her constant declarations of a "state of emergency". That issue is now before the Michigan Supreme Court and we may hear something in October. I'm not optimistic.
