Maybe comparable to Mark Helfrich at Oregon. Started out hot and legit had a team that could have won a title. Won with the prior coach players and system. Program fizzled out and significantly declined after a few years.

Firing Howard had to be done because next year’s team could be worse than 8-24. The last 3 seasons have been disappointing outside of a random Sweet 16 run. The rare time that I was right about a coaching hire by labeling Howard as a mixed bag back in 2019. Clear pros and cons. We ended up seeing good things and then it all tanked.

Warde hired a search firm and was rumored to be a big Ed Cooley fan last time. Doubt we will see the Cooley part happen this time around. I’m sticking with my favorite choice from 2019 and hoping for Tony Bennett from UVA. Very high floor and he has an understanding of the academic hurdles. I’m higher on Chris Collins from NW than most people. NW is a really difficult job to win at and Collins has built a decent program. Maybe Shaka Smart or the FAU head coach deserve consideration too. Plenty of options! Guarantee that Warde’s first call was to Nate Oats because the timing of his contract extension is very suspicious.
