Michigan Basketball had an impressive road win tonight at College Park MD as they defeated Maryland 84-73. Hunter Dickinson led all scorers with 26 points, and had 11 rebounds. Franz Wagner added 19 points, and Mike Smith added 16 points. Smith shot 5-7 from the field and 2-2 from three point land. He also had 6 assists.

Michigan shot 59% from the field as a team, and a whopping 90% from the charity stripe. (18-20) As a team they were 31% from beyond the arc.

The Wolverines will return home to play NW on Sunday, and Minnesota at Crisler on Wednesday, before heading out to Happy Valley to play the Nits a week from Saturday.

Any win in the Big Ten is huge. Maryland was one of the hotter teams in the conference until tonight.

        Hunter Dickinson, man.

He's gonna mess around and be first team all-big ten if he keeps on this course.

Mike Smith has come along and taken over the role of Xavier Simpson very well. In fact, I think he's a better FT shooter, which is key at the end of close games.

Dickinson is playing himself further into the NBA draft with every game. Dang ...

Yes, Mike Smith has been impressive. Love how he has accepted his new role here, which is completely polar opposite of his role before getting to UM.

As for Hunter, well, I guess it's a good problem to have. But man, could you imagine a Hunter Dickinson with a full season under his belt with the incoming class?

M (9-0) is now ranked #10 after two impressive wins @ Maryland, vs Northwestern.
                    This week:
                    vs #16 Minnesota
                    @ Penn State
Handle business vs those two opponents and M is heading towards a big showdown vs Wisconsin on 01/12/21.

It's going to be hard to stop this team if Wagner and Dickinson keep it up. My only complaint is the depth. Wish M had an 8th or 9th guy off the bench that could be part of the rotation. If Davis comes back this season, he can do it. Possibly give Terrance Williams more playing time. Could be a factor is M gets in foul trouble or suffers and injury at some point.

Imagine if M kept Colin Castleton, He has been going off recently at Florida.

                    • What I've been impressed with is their FT shooting. When teams deliberately put them on the line, they're making their shots.

If Dickinson keeps this up, he's going to be one and done. I actually hope he cools off a bit so he doesn't draw as much attention. Let him be our secret for a while longer.

                      • I like everything about this team except for the ball security. Too many turnovers. I hope that gets cleaned up as Mike Smith develops more chemistry with the other guys.

Also -- waiting for the other shoe to drop.

                            • Michigan defeats Minnesota tonight at Crisler Center 82-57.

Hunter Dickinson again led all scorers with a career high 28 points, shooting 12 of 15 from the field, and 4-4 at the charity stripe. He also collected 8 rebounds. So much for Michigan's little secret.

Franz Wagner chipped in 12 points, and Isiah Livers added 14. Michigan led by 4 at the break, and then outscored the 16th ranked Goofers 51-30 in the 2nd half. Michigan was leading by 33 points in the 2nd half when Howard cleared the bench with about 3 minutes to go.

Michigan's game against Penn State slated for Saturday has been postponed due to Covid issues at PSU. Michigan will face #8 ranked Wisconsin at Crisler Center next Tuesday, followed by a return matchup with these same Gophers in Minnesota on Jan 16.

We may have found our coach.

                              • Juwans offense is really good at getting big men the ball on the block all by themselves while Dickinson is excellent at finishing and finding cutters. If I'm a post player, I'd want to play for Juwan...

Dickinson's supporting cast is good enough, Wagner has developed his all around game despite not yet finding his 3 pt shot. Was optimistic going into this season and this team is better than expectations.

Some concern about turnovers and depth, been hoping to see more contributions from the bench in season and that hasn't developed.
