  • Oh, and the cast is impressive.

Christian Bale, Gillian Anderson, Robert Duval, Timothy Spall (a great supporting actor for oddball characters), Toby Jones (same as Spall, really) and a few others.

        • Velma is interesting in that it seems to be almost universally loathed.

What I’ve seen on it suggests it did the impossible and was considerably worse than even She Hulk.

The not-exactly-conservative online rag Slate described it as having no laughs, there's something in it to piss off everyone, and doesn't even have a catchy theme song.

I still haven't seen any of She-Hulk but at its core I think it was mostly trying to be light-hearted and dumb fun. Effectively filler for Disney+ in between better projects. Everything I've seen about Velma is that its lead character is extremely unlikeable and the whole project is dark and meanspirited for no real reason other than the writers believe edgy and shock value is funny. But they are also about 10-15 years behind in what constitutes "edgy".

                        • For sure. She Hulk fails because it’s totally unfunny and horribly written. Velma fails because it’s overtly hostile to humanity. Or so I’m told. I’m tempted to flog myself with an episode of each. But I’m not that bored, yet.

                          • She Hulk is dumb without the fun. I made it through 12 minutes.
