      • Quit watching GOT after the Red Wedding. Write your own ending.

Everything after that season sucks ass. Big time. It's true both for the show and the books. George RR Martin basically crapped out books 4 and 5 and has quit since then.

        • Did someone mention George Martìn?

I disagree with that being a stopping point. (Trying to avoid spoilers…)
GoT (Game of Thrones) is still high quality TV all the way through season 6. Seasons 5 and 6 have a few questionable moments, but still excellent.
Stopping after the end of season 6 is fair IMO.

It’s an unfortunate part of several TV series. Strong early seasons and botching later seasons.
              - True Detective season 1, amazing. You can stop there.
              - Westworld season 1, amazing. You can stop there.
              - Dexter seasons 1-4, amazing. You can stop there.
              Etc.

Common with movies too where most sequels are inferior.
Rare exceptions such as Terminator 2, Aliens, The Dark Knight, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes…

              • I've always thought Aliens was one of the most overrated movies of the 80s. It just plays out like "Rambo in Space". The original is very different, but just a superior film - unless of course, one is looking for that "blow everything up" (and.. well, make another movie where you blow up even more stuff) kind of movie that paved the road for the Marvel mess that we've got now.

                Someone prove me wrong.

                • Both “Alien” and “Aliens” are incredible movies.
I wouldn’t fight anyone that prefers Alien because there are some better aspects in that movie. Horror feel and sound (Ridley Scott really good with sound design/ aka Blade Runner!!) for example.
I prefer Aliens because it’s more re-watchable to me. Top of the line action movie that mostly holds up today thanks to practical effects. Underrated horror in it… such as the scene when the aliens attack from the ceiling.

                  • I'm 75 percent throught the 1st season of Reacher, so far so good. They have already renewed it for an second season which isn't a surprise, Bosch has been Amazon's most streamed show and it is the same target audience for Reacher. A very good pulp story that plays out like a Grisham book on screen.

I only thought that the last half hour or so was weak. Basically everything after Vasquez and Gorman blow themselves up. Then it's an overly drawn out search for Newt. I did like everything up before that though. Really good writing and character development with Hicks, Hudson, Burke, and Ripley.

Alien, on the other hand, gets pretty tedious after the "dinner" scene. Everything up before that is excellent.

                        • Watched a handful of Disney movies I had never seen before

                          Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
Hunchback of Notre Dame II (Direct to Video) (2002)
                          A Bug's Life (1998)

Hunchback '96 is a charming movie. I don't think it's one of Disney's best but it looks nice and was an improvement over the previous year's Pocahontas. The songs are meh. Couldn't name or hum a single one two weeks later. But that's the weakest part of it, the characters are enjoyable and the story is decent. There is a very weird sexual undertone though. The villain is clearly horny as fuck for Esmeralda (voiced by Demi Moore) and to be perfectly blunt, she's one of the sexiest characters Disney's ever animated. I realize romance is in so many of these things but this one is dominated by LUST as a motivation and that's, well, interesting at least.

I also (unfortunately) watched the direct-to-video sequel. Somewhere in the 90's Disney started making cashgrab video sequels to everything they had previously made. Nowadays instead of cheap sequels they are making "live-action" versions. Well of that earlier generation of cashgrabs this is the worst I've ever seen. I mean, what can you expect from one of these things? But i've seen a few others and they were masterworks compared with this. The animation is tv quality, it's an insipid story, and the ending has no suspense whatsoever. And the songs are even worse than the first one. It's garbage. Refuse to allow your kids to watch it.

So..... A Bug's Life. It was okay. I really don't feel much either way on this one. It's weird to think of it as Pixar's follow-up to the enormous success of Toy Story (1995). Enormous success this is not. I think the animation in the first Toy Story has aged a bit. But for some reason I think this looks worse? I think it's worth a watch but this probably isn't one your kids or grandkids are going to want on over and over. The behind the scenes stuff and the feuding between Pixar, Steve Jobs, and Dreamworks is actually a lot more interesting than the movie is.

                            • It’s remarkable how so many movies today can’t tell a decent story given the 45 extra minutes of run time they have compared to movies from 20-30 years ago. And with all of the CGI and shit every one of those minutes costs more than ever.

George Lucas made The Empire Strikes Back for only $60 Million in today’s dollars. Nowadays that’s the budget for one shitty action scene in a Marvel movie.

                              • I have really liked Succession so far, with the exception of a few Episodes of Season 3 that seem like they are there to pad the length and drag out the story. It’s one of the only shows on TV that doesn’t divert the storyline with massive side tangents on characters that we don’t give a shit about.
