  • Skyfall was too fucking long, it was a good movie but I don't get the overpraise.

Also I just started watching the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda is excellent. I've never seen a character where I just laugh everytime he is in a scene. Having Chubs in the series is excellent as well.

It should be free on Prime w/premium subscription or on HBO Max. Run time is a little long, but payoff is huge when Linney tears killer apes to ribbons with diamond-supercharged laser of death.

      • Oh good, I got HBO Max, huge sigh of relief it's readily available.

Can I just review this 2:30 clip instead? Spoilers: the CGI lava has not aged well but does hilariously obliterate some apes

        • A diminutive female gorilla wearing a Speak-N-Spell Power Glove manages to scare off 20 fearsome grey gorillas straight from the bowels of Hell just long enough for Laura Linney to smack a rock against another rock until a diamond pops out. She uses the diamond to build a laser gun that sometimes vivisects the gorillas and other times just sets them on fire until a volcano explodes, at which point Laura Linney reflects upon the wackiness her life has become.

Bruce Campbell did not appear in this clip.

I award this film an F

                    BLACK SHAMPOO (1976)
Starring: John Daniels, Tanya Boyd, Joe Ortiz, Skip Lowe, Jack Mehoff (yes, it's a pseudonym)
                    d. Greydon Clark

Mr. Jonathan (Daniels) is the most popular hair stylist in town. Not only is he handy with a blower, he also the best at a totally different kind of service. But his new receptionist has a past he doesn't known about and soon he's dragged into the seedy mob underworld of...the East Bay, maybe?

So..I heard about this movie on a podcast that discusses bad movies. I'm completely split on whether it's worth anyone's time. Tonally it's all over the place. I'll just get it out of the way. If you just start the film without knowing anything about it, for the first 20 minutes you are going to think you're watching a softcore porno. Right off the bat Mr. Jonathan is washing some lady's hair, with funky 70's porno music playing. And before too long she's heaving and moaning and they're going at it on a couch. There's nothing truly explicit...but there's tons of nudity and later a really, really uncomfortable scene with two very young women getting naked and rubbing themselves all over him by a pool. This is all in the first 20 minutes and there is next to no plot introduced to that point.

The "plot" involves Brenda, Mr. Jonathan's new receptionist, who has left her former boyfriend, a 52-year-old white mobster who now wants he back. He threatens Jonathan to send her back. And it escalates from there.

The other two employees at his salon...HOLEE SHIT. Think of the most over-the-top flamboyantly gay 70's stereotype you can think of and it will fall well short of these two.

About halfway the movie swerves bigtime and instead of sexual misadaventures, you're now watching a very violent crime/revenge flick. Artie, one of the flamboyantly gay hairdressers, gets sodomized with a curling iron. Mr. Jonathan kills some thugs WITH A CHAINSAW. A kindly old man gets run over by a car. A man is impaled on a pool cue after caning a woman half to death with it. Again, nothing is extremely graphic or explicit but man. You get swung around between uncomfortable sex scenes to uncomfortable violence.

I can't really recommend this as enjoyable but if you think you've seen it all and want something weird, this is a good 70's example of that. That poster is pretty amazing though.

                    • I think I've seen most of those movies, I had a job that had a lot of weekend midnight patching so I had Bounce TV on and they would have a midnight doubleheader.

KONGA (1961) -- American International Pictures
                          d. John Lemont
Starring: Michael Gough, Margo Johns, Claire Gordon, Jess Conrad, Austin Trevor, George Pastell

A British botanist, Dr. Charles Decker, goes missing in Africa for a over a year and is presumed dead. But then he suddenly returns, with a chimpanzee in tow and a bunch of weird plant samples. It turns out the doctor has gone a bit mad, as the Brits say. He raises a bunch of carnivorous planets in his greenhouse and uses them to create a serum which makes things grow big. Including his test subject, Konga, the wee little chimp he brings back from Uganda.

Soon the mad doctor uses his serum to grow the chimp to human size and sends him out to MURDER. First the dean who tries to shut down his experiments; then a rival scientist whose work threatens to overtake his own. But the doctor is a dirty old perv and he's got a hunger for sexy co-ed Sandra, so he has Konga kill her boyfriend too. This makes the doctor's longtime assistant and hopeful wife, Margaret, none too pleased. Overhearing the doctor planning to kill off both her and Konga to hide his tracks, she gives Konga a super-mega dose of growth serum. But Konga ends up killing her, grabbing the doctor, and the sexy co-ed gets her arm eaten by a plant.

Konga carries the doctor around London in a variety of terrible special effects shot before the military shoots him dead and he shrinks back to normal size. Every major character we've met is dead or maimed.

This movie's pretty shitty and Laura Linney is nowhere to be found, so I don't know what that lunatic Talent is talking about. Michael Gough may be better remembered by modern audiences as Alfred from the Tim Burton Batman movies. If you're looking for a bad movie that hits every "mad scientist" cliche this one is a good example. Gough's character is a total asshole and I kind of wish he got a more gruesome end but alas, we take what we can get.
