  • Good chess players get bored and will play some stupid stuff to get their opponent out in the weeds or in the hopes that they overextend and attack before development and the center is secured, but f3/e4 is very, very bad.

My advice is to not spend any time on it and hope because that kinda game is not helpful at all in your development.

    • Correct. In any event, I like the theory behind the defense better than the Dutch craziness. So, I'm going to plow forward with Nf6 for every fucking d4 I get until I actually know some lines.

          • For someone who knows the rules to chess but no strategy whatsoever, do you guys have any free courses or lessons you would recommend to get started? Without much football stuff to read I thought this might be a good way to fill the void.

                • After those three texts...a book on endgames. Jeremy Silman has a decent one whose name escapes me (google Silman endgame).

Not that you care, but Nc6 was, in fact, his move.

                            • Quick take on this one...

                              Saboteur (1942)
                              d. Alfred Hitchcock
Starring: Bob Cummings, Priscilla Lane, Otto Kruger, Norman Lloyd

Bob Cummings plays a man on the run after he's framed for committing industrial sabotage at an aircraft plant. His escape takes him across the countryfrom the west coast to New York City as he dodges both the police and the saboteur ring trying to silence him.

Although at the time this movie was considered the B-list companion to 1941's Suspicion, I ended up enjoying it more. Cummings and Lane aren't Grant and Fontaine but the story doesn't need them to be. It's just a solid action/thriller set in the WWII home front. I was getting a genuine blood lust for the saboteurs which is only partially satisfied by the end, if I had one negative to say.

But all around a pretty solid flick with a few memorable scenes. Certainly worth a watch if you've never seen it.
