  • Coincidentally found this on Billy Jack while searching through Groovy History for something else. Had no idea he played football at Wisconsin:

    • Also, saw “Violent Night” last night. Think “Home Alone” meets “Die Hard” with a bit more gore.

It was campy, not to be taken seriously, but not horrible.

Says he played football for the long-extinct Marquette program too. I started The Born Losers but haven't finished it.

        • Interesting I didn't know that. Born Losers is a great campy/violent 'guilty pleasure'. Best of the Billy Jack series.

Robert Tessier went on to be a classic villain in many parts, (also 'Mr Clean') as the bald-headed tattooed muscleman, funny that he has a full head of hair here and his name is Cueball. Charles Bronson had a big fight with him in 'Hard Times'. Few other character actors too, the overdramatic Jane Russell

          • Oh I didn't even recognize Robert Tessier. Yeah, he went on to play bad guys in all sorts of B-movies. Occasionally some A pictures cuz I think he was a stuntman also.

              • As bad as the Holiday Special is, this is possibly worse. Kris Kristofferson plays Han Solo, Redd Foxx plays Obi Wan, and campy Paul Lynde plays an imperial officer. The musical numbers are aggressively bad but the Stormtrooper number just past the 6:30 mark is one for the ages

There are a couple of head scratching plot lines, but overall (as with most BBC involved series) it is worth a look.
After watching it, I totally agreed with this assessment. It seems like they had 2 or 3 seasons worth of storylines and put it into a 6 episode mini series. It works because the two leads are really good.

I didn't realize it was filmed in Spain. It looked like it was filmed in the plains of the US.

                    • Nobody did Christmas specials the way Bob Hope did.

                      Nada.

They were corny, funny, and heart wrenching all at the same time. He was a true hero to deployed troops everywhere.

                      I miss those shows.

                          • Just saw M3GAN with the family. Really good movie -- finely calibrated campy horror and tons of uncanny valley.

                              • Saw "Pale Blue Eye" on Netflix. If you like Poe, and are expecting a Poe story brought to film, you will be disappointed. Poe is in it, but as a student at West Point (which Poe attended for a while IRL). It is a fictional story, however, based on the book by Louis Bayard.

Nonethless, it's worthwhile. Has a bit of devil worship intertwined with a historically-based fiction mixed with a touch of Agatha Christie - complete with a twist ending.
