Hollywood was in trouble long before "woke" became a thing. Movie studios face massive competition for our entertainment dollars now. There's zero appetite for risk. So make big expensive blockbusters based on "known" properties, make some low budget artsy, independent type films, and not much in between.

But there's still good stuff being made today. Chritopher Nolan, the Coen Brothers, Edgar Wright, Robert Eggers, David Fincher, Quentin Tarantino, and others I'm not thinking of off the top of my head, have contributed a pretty good output over the past 30 years.

What "woke" killed was creativity...as writers, producers, directors stopped pushing the envelope like Chappelle and others for fear of being blackballed...sure the new way of providing content changed things but it did not change the content itself...

I used to love the movies but once everything went to CGI comic book blockbusters I lost interest. The choices, for the most part, are something from the Marvel/Star Wars universe or a sad artsy flick about some social problem. I used to use the analogy of a movie about a transgender dolphin that solves global warming, makes $80K at the box office, and gets nominated for 8 Oscars. Well damn, if that hasn't basically come true. Apparently there is a movie about a drug lord turned transgender activist that is a total box office bomb and has been nominated for 13 (!) academy awards.

They need to make a movie about a corrupt President who funnels money from our enemies to his family's bank accounts...that would be cool...and so far fetched too...
