  • Barbie is now a lock to pass Super Mario Bros as the top domestic movie of the year and might still beat Mario worldwide.

Oppenheimer has risen all the way to #4, which is pretty great for what's way more of a serious movie than everything else in the top 10.

    • Saw Blue Beetle this weekend. It is a super hero movie but not about super heroes. Solid cast.

The movie shines when it focuses on family and to a lesser degree legacy. It also shines a light on two different worlds within the same country.

This was not a big budget movie and that shows in the fights. They are creative enough but go on a little too long. That said I hope there is a sequel to this

I put this in the same category as New Mutants and shazam. Super hero movies that are not about the super heroing per se.

      • This wasn’t a great movie (“The Gambler”), but there is some real wisdom in this advice given by Goodman’s character (NSFW, language):

"The problem with quotes on the Internet is that it is sometimes hard to verify their authenticity." -Abraham Lincoln

        • Excellent wisdom. The words "FUCK YOU" are almost as powerful as "STFU"...which Goodman was great at in Lebowski of course.

If you like Goodman...you must watch The Righteous Gemstones on Max...

            • Top 3 movies of the year are now Barbie, Super Mario, and Oppenheimer. Saw a post that this is the first year since way back in 2001 that none of the top 3 grossing movies were a sequel.

              • I watched 'Hypnotic' last night, with Ben Affleck, the first half hour wasn't bad. I give it a 5.8 out of 10

Yeah, still working off two franchises and a “biography.” Not exactly original ideas, but, yea…
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
                  Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

                    • Honestly it's fairly incredible that a very talky drama about a physicist has made $800M worldwide...

                      • Not when you realize that people still want to see movies that aren't crappy CGI-drenched superhero sequels.

                        • I finally watched the 3rd Ant-Man movie over the long weekend. Boy, I can see why that flopped. Easily a bottom 3 MCU movie.
