Apparently some drama about who Indiana will be playing in the Gator Bowl...could be Tennessee, not Kentucky. Apparently Tennessee was pissed that Kentucky was getting a better bowl than them or something...

He allegedly had the same situation last year. Florida players had supposedly checked out after having lost in the SEC championship game. Instead, it looked like an NFL team beating up on a HS team.

Alabama has been recruiting at a level WAY above Michigan for almost two decades. They have more than enough of a talent stockpile to absorb any player losses due to preserving themselves for the NFL combine. They have players in their 2 and 3 deep that would start at Michigan. They'll have more than enough left over to beat Michigan, and decisively so.

                    Random thoughts:

-Josh Uche will give us fits.

-To the ones who think we won't be motivated, I don't get that feeling. It certainly won't be an excuse I will use if we get beat.

-We are not really expected to get any of our injured back for the bowl.

-Big question: will any of our future 1st round WRs elect not to play.

-Two-loss Bama drops to 13th. There are six 2-loss and two 3-loss teams ranked ahead of us. Certainly unfamiliar territory for the Tide.

                      Alabama 52
                      UM 20

This will easily eclipse last year's embarrassment. That will make Harbaugh 1-9 versus OSU+bowl games.

There are three links below. The first shows Oddsshark's evaluation of the game and the opening line - Michigan +7, O/U 54. The second and third links are Our Lad's NFL Scouting reports for each team's depth charts as of 11/29 (after the final game of the season for each team). Color codes: Red = 1st or 2nd NFL Draft Rounds; Green = 3/4; Aqua = Late Rounds, 5-7; Blue = underclassman; Black = Free Agent.

The Oddsshark link also lists injuries. You can see the starters that Alabama has lost on defense and offense and then find their draft status on the Depth Charts. AA has been right with his hand wringing about Alabama's injuries on defense. Younger players are more prone to mistakes even though they have the size and strength to play right away or out of need.

The problem in this bowl game for M is going to be exerting some degree of defensive control at the LOS. The Alabama OL outweighs M's front 4 (starting NTs, DTs and DEs) by 60-100 lbs/position. There's no scheme, no magic tricks available that is going to overcome physics. We saw how osu moved M's front 7 with Brown playing what amounted to a 3-3-5, 1-Hi man, or 2-hi zone in an attempt to limit fields. dobbins had pretty much his way. Alabama isn't as spready as osu is. Najee Harris is the equal of dobbins - very similar running styles and Saban can lean on Harris in a power spread run game that can afford to eschew the RPO. It would not surprise me to see Saban run power with Harrris 75% of the time unless M can stop the run ..... to do that they are going to have to bring bodies up.

Tua was good at exploiting this with the RPO; Jones seems to fit right in but the offense is also less efficient as an RPO offense without Tua. M may be able to risk bringing bodies up to stop the run game if Jones appears to be unable to get the ball into tight windows off the RPO. If Jones is on, it's going to be very hard for M to stop Alabama's run or pass game.

M did a very poor job of executing what was a decent defensive scheme v. osu's passing game. My take is that Alabama's receivers are equal to if not better than osu's. With two very good tackles and giants at the interior OL positions, M isn't likely to get a lot of pressure on Jones without bringing 5. It will be interesting to see if Jones can make the ZR/RPO reads on Brown's defensive sets and make the right call - run when the numbers are light in the box, pass when they're heavy. Brown does a lot of things to confuse the QB's reads and DL sets. I wonder if he sometimes tries to do too much at the expense of the players being confused on a play-to-play basis about their roles?

Michigan can win this game. To do so, the OL has to keep Patterson clean. Gattis has to make it happen with his play calls and looks, Patterson has to play error free and have an efficient passing game; receivers have to make plays. I don't feel that M can threaten with a run game although Gattis will try - I hope not too hard. Throwing like he did v. PSU (in the second half) ND, MSU and IU, working the out and deep routes, hitting some screens and drags will be the key to keeping up with Alabama in what I think will be a high scoring game if Patterson has a good day..... probably in the 38-45 point range. At least that's what the Tide will game plan to do whther they can do it will depend on Jones. If Jones is on, M has to keep up. There's nothing wrong with the match-up between M's OL and Alabama's front 7. I think M's receivers match-up favorably with Alabama's DBs. There are some NFL caliber CBs and Ss back there. Collins, Black (if he can make the catch!) and DPJ can test them deep, Bell and Jackson can beat LBs in coverage should that kind of mis-match develop and we'd hope Gattis does that....... just don't let Alabama get aggressive by building a two score lead. If Saban can do that, M is dead meat.

Sagrins' predictors: Full Season - Alabama 98.8, M 89.8 (Prediction: Alabama wins by 9). Recent games - Alabama 93.9, M 91.3 (Prediction: Alabama by 2.6).

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Warde Manuel picked the highest payout bowl available to Michigan in a move that smacks of Dave Brandon, money over everything. Picking a bowl game where Michigan is even marginally competitive is irrelevant, only dollar signs count.

Y'all. I have been saying since October that Bama would lose two. That our front seven is decimated. That was before Tua was lost for the year. If Shea plays competently -not even great- and Pick Six Jones gets rattled (which is extremely possible because Brown will bring the heat) AND if one or more of our guaranteed lock first round WRs sit out, M will have a real chance. Don't be hypnotized by the uniforms. This is the weakest Bama team on D since Saban has been in Tuscaloosa.

Right now I wouldn't touch the game -even if sweetened to -6.5.
