You have to invest the emotional capital otherwise the victory won't taste as sweet. The problem is that you have to do it year after year until the victory comes. Better to do it than not, though. But you can hardly blame Michigan fans. They've seen that you can stop shooting yourself in the foot, but also that someone else will do it if you don't. But, still, the victory will be sweeter than any celebrated in those other towns.

The parallels to 1969 are too much to overcome. Everyone knows it: https://www.freep.com/story/sports/c...69/4275143002/

If it's only a 12-point loss then maybe OSU can still make the CFP.

This is what separates us from the Spartans, and this year is a great example. Their team has quit and their fans have scattered. That's why their tickets for Senior Day are selling for $1 on resale sites. Those RichRod and Hoke years were brutal and it was really close in 2014, but at least we've never collectively bailed.

I would like to believe that that is not the only thing, but it sure is one of them. There's never not been a light at the end of the tunnel, frankly. And, paid players is a very bright light. That won't even the playing field forever, but it should for a while until the programs that are most aggressive in finding new loopholes start to succeed.

CFB has changed so dramatically in the last decade that it's hard to compare the period of the 10 year war - within which the M osu rivalry was born - to the current state of the rivalry. Carr's dominance over john cooper and before tressel, then meyer, did have a resemblance to that hay-day that was Bo's and Woody's. Since then. No.

As others have pointed out, M's Athletic Department, and the Michigan culture that it is buried in, damaged the program and the rivalry. M hasn't recruited the same level of the elites for any number of valid reasons and that explains a lot of the current losing streak of 7 games and the woeful last decade +.

Harbaugh hasn't done the program any favors. For also a lot of valid reasons/criticisms, M has been the bridesmaid on too many top 100 players while osu has hauled them in, nationally and locally. I think player development compared to programs like Wisconsin, PSU and less recently MSU has M taking a back seat in the scenario where three stars turn into play-makers. M has too few of those it would seem.

So, no one should be surprised that osu has dominated the series with M and it should surprise no one that M, despite Patterson's late season brilliance, is more likely to lose on Saturday than win. Every analytical tool forecasts that outcome. A win becomes a statistical anomaly. Those occur but not with a lot of regularity. 1969 was probably the last time, with osu having a statistical advantage by a long way, that M pulled out a win. So, randomness and trends towards the mean could weigh in M's favor. I'm not counting on it.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Ok. There are two other times that I can recall such overwhelming sentiment that OSU was invincible and UM didn't stand a chance. I was fortunate enough to have connections back then that scored me tickets on 30 yard line. In 1993 UM was 6-4 coming into that game and OSU came in unbeaten. Final score 28-0 UM. In 1995 UM was 8-3 coming into that game and OSU came in unbeaten. Final score 31-23 UM.

This game will be much closer than Hannibal thinks. OSU by 24...really? I just don't see it.

I remember thinking there was no way OSU was gonna lose in 2009 (and 2008, 2010). Heh.

Looks like another terrible weather game for OSU. 3 big games for OSU and they'll all be in shitty weather. Fantastic. Nothing like wind, sleet and snow.

lol ... "wintery mix" for Saturday.

Won't affect the outcome at all. OSU still covers easily.

Michigan will still be able to claim that the game is a 'sellout' because any remaining tickets they had were sold to outside agents (Ticketmaster, Stub Hub, et al) months ago.

However, the weather will keep Michiganders away in droves. The students certainly aren't going to venture out in the 'wintry mix' to watch OSU stomp on the team. It might be entertaining to tune in just to see what an empty student section looks like for the OSU game.

If nothing else, the weather will make the Ohioans trek to the stadium a bit more inconvenient. Parking will be a nightmare. If Pioneer has any parking at all, it will be on only the paved areas, and those will fill quickly. There may be a few local residents that open up their driveways and yards in the area but that's not going to be enough. And whatever is open will be sky-high $$$.

Still, I expect to see upwards of 30K in red, and maybe about 60K in various colors of snowmobile suits. Just enough so that Michigan will be able to claim another 100K crowd. They'll be counting the stray cats and mice to get to that number ....

Is what is Liney. Let it go.

What's driving parking closures is the rain that will come tonight and tomorrow. That system is big and could bring an inch of precip. Ground is saturated and it wont drain. The system that will affect the region Saturday is puny. Moisture could be kept S of AA by a strong H in S Cenral Canada. Small chance but it sucks that I've endured bad weather in 3/5 games attended this season. At least M pounded 2 of those rivals. One to go. Rain seems to favor M.
