  • On Saturday we finally got to see the tip of the iceberg on how good this receiving corps can be. Patterson completed passes to nine (9) different receivers. And the most prominent of all the receivers was not who you might think, (DPJ, Collins or Black). It was actually Ronnie Bell. The guy who dropped the pass against Penn State. I'd argue that he's Michigan's best receiver right now, and I think Gattis is seeing that as well, by targeting him so much.

Sainristil is not so bad either. He had about 3 shoestring catches that were amazing.

    • Still soaking up the win. Not really that upset, but that call on Black flexing to the crowd is called while MSU can do it to our QBs face.

      • Head coach Jim Harbaugh has a question in to the Big Ten conference as to why junior wide receiver Tarik Black was flagged for taunting during Saturday's game against Michigan State. Black made a big catch down the right sideline, got up and flexed an arm and was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

After appearing puzzled as to why Black was flagged, Harbaugh then went on to demonstrate several celebration moves that he's seen over the course of the season that have not been flagged. It was a funny moment but Harbaugh seriously wants to understand the call and would like some clarity as to what is a foul and what isn't.

        • If he gets an answer, let me know. Ohio State was flagged for identical thing.

          • The officiating crew was definitely watching Michigan closely early in the game, but toward the end they had no choice but to start focusing on the crap MSU was pulling.

The call against Black for 'flexing' was probably their weakest call all day long. That was a 'talk to' call. Go to the kid, tell him to stop flexing, and be done with it. It didn't deserve a flag.

Now, .. I could understand if it was a situation where a DL makes a sack, then stands over the fallen QB and starts 'flexing'. I believe the original intent of the rule was to eliminate that stuff.

            Black's "flex" was a nothing-burger.

Apparently, it's the rule. So, it did deserve a flag. I agree, it's stupid, but, again, Ohio State got the identical penalty -- in a the 2nd half of a game that was 56-7 at the time. IDENTICAL.

Officials are given latitude just like a cop can give you latitude when they pull you over for speeding. Exceeding the speed limit calls for a speeding ticket. Its the law. But, I'd daresay most of us have been pulled over by a cop for speeding, or some other violation, and the cop let us off with a warning.

The same applies in officiating football. You can flag, or you can warn, depending on the situation. I think at worst, Black deserved a warning. At best it should have been totally ignored. It was a reaction to a big play. It certainly was not taunting.

                • My guess is that it's a point of emphasis for the B10. They don't want it all. As soon as I saw Black do that I said "that's 15." And I only knew that because of the week before. And when Harrison (and Black) got their penalties both coaches were pissed. I'm assuming that's it's known that it's a point of emphasis. No matter what sort of shenanigans and nonsense HARBAUGH!!!! does in his press conference.

                  • We've had far worse calls go against us in the Harbaugh era in that one.

                    • Every flag or no flag call they were calling a penalty Saturday, I've no problem with it considering our opponent who loves to take late, cheap, and dirty hits.

                          • I suspect that Jimmy Hoffa said something similar to his wife when he left for the Machus Red Fox.

Let's see how his plans evolve after Maryland beats him, the Giants release Pat Shurmur, his January 15th bonus kicks in, and his deposition plays out.

                            • He can stay as long as he likes. He's losing the bulk of his defense this year, and pretty much the only weapon he has on offense in Lewerke.

I think his biggest problem is going to be the deposition.
