    That is insane

I've been a huge sports fan my entire life but it's just a freaking game. It's entertainment. Too many people become psycho over this shit.

I was there for that infamous A-Train game. After the game, some co-ed ran up to me and screamed in my face "Michigan can suck my c***!"

Beating them by 60 wouldn't be thorough enough for me.

I've been to two Illinois games in the last 10 years. The stadium is cool looking if you like that sort of architecture - worth a look. But the fans just suck. I was warned they suck and to not engage any of them. There's a parking lot that runs along a street that leads to the stadium entrance and there is a high fence on the side of the lot facing said street. Imagine that fence separating hordes of drunk Illini fans yelling every obscenity at passing M fans who wore any kind of identifying garb. A lot like a fence keeping pit bulls with bared teeth from attacking you and inflicting terrible physical harm. Attending an Illinois v. M game in Champaign is an adventure.

But they've been so bad for so long now, I'm really surprised that they have fans who are emotionally invested enough in that program in its current state to even care that deeply to hate another program like that.

They aren't emotionally invested in Illinois football. They use football games as a venue at which they can party, consume large quantities of alcohol and then act like most drunk football fans act - foolishly.

Relatives lived in mid-Illinois for most of the 80's and into the 90's. They absolutely hate Michigan, we were always the biggest game on their schedule for whatever reason(?). It's been way too long since they've had 3 good seasons in a row; they always seem to make the worst hire available. Looked it up and they drew 70k a game regularly in the 80's. Barely 40k show up now, very little reason they aren't every bit as strong as a program as anyone in the West other than Wisconsin.

Champaign-Urbana is probably the most desolate location in the Big Ten- about 2.5 (LONG) hours away from Chicago into the flat fields of central Illinois. It may as well be on Mars.

West Lafayette wants in on some of that action.

Yes- West Lafayette is a close second. Their stadium is worse, but at least the engineering geeks are amusing.

I've never been to Memorial Stadium in Champaign/Urbana, but I've driven thru the area a few times on the x-way. Its definitely out in the middle of nowhere.

I've been to Purdue a couple of times and for the most part their fans seemed indifferent to us. If we spoke kindly to them, they spoke kindly to us. Their stadium is poop, considering that all the alleged great engineers of the Big Ten attend there. It looks like a high school stadium that they kept expanding. A lot like Spartan Stadium.

Worst I was ever treated at a road venue was at East Lansing. After the game, (a Michigan loss, of course) I got separated from the group I was with, and I was the only Michigan fan within about a block. I was followed back to my parking space by a group of MSU students who kept saying all sorts of nice things about my posterior, my belly, and of course my team. Such a fun day it was. I wish I would have eaten some chili that morning so I could have farted in their general direction.

I was more joking about West Lafayette, a dig at Cody Russell. My first college football game was at Ross Ade stadium, Northwestern at Purdue when the Wildcats were the joke of college football and Purdue fancied themselves as QB U. My dad was a Purdue grad who commuted to school. From where he grew up Lafayette was the big city.

You are rolling the dice at MSU as far as treatment goes.

Hunh, I like Champaign alright. And Memorial Stadium is pretty historic. Place looks like a Civil War fort from the outside. I prefer it over West Lafayette.

Both Illinois and Purdue suck insofar as there's nothing close to the stadium. You've got to trek pretty far north to find college bars at Illinois. And you've got to go pretty far east at Purdue.

Although Penn State is pretty similar. Nittany Stadium is nowhere near the main drag of college hangouts. But out there you've got one of the best tailgating scenes in the Big10 immediately around the stadium, IMO.

Wisconsin is pretty nice as far as being both close to college bars and tailgating.

I've gone to Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, and Penn State multiple times each. Have been to Minnesota (back in the Metrodome days!), Wisconsin, MSU, and Maryland only once.

I've been to Ann Arbor but not for a game. Never been to Nebraska, Iowa, Rutgers, or (surprisingly) Indiana
