  • ..... it will be impossible to have no infections. You will have infections. The question is what do you do about them. Let's run that down: Player A, B and 60yo coach C test + after the first game is played. Those three get isolated. Next man/coach up on the roster. If symptoms among the infected develop (fever, cough, lethargy) they remain isolated for 10d from symptom onset then can resume normal activities. No post illness test is needed (per CDC). They miss the next game and, if conditioning permits, they can play in the game following. If no symptoms, isolate for 14d from + test then resume normal activities. Players A and B have about a 90% chance they will have no symptoms or will recover from mild ones. If they have more severe illness manage the outcome. Coach C has about an 80% chance he will have mild symptoms. If he develops moderate or severe symptoms, manage the outcome. If no symptoms, isolate for 14d post + test, then resume activities.

If any positives post game, the entire team along with the opponent players and coaches get tested as do any contacts (closer than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) that those players or coaches had. Any positives warrant isolation and the process repeats. You do this until the roster keeps you from replacing players who are held out due to a + test and convalescing . Each team is it's own bubble and is managed accordingly. That one team cannot put a team on the field does not mean that the BT has to cancel all remaining games. The schedule gets adjusted.

I feel confident that a system like this would allow most, possibly not all, games to be played. The problem is that the press will be all over the first + and the fall-out from that will probably prompt an ill-conceived cancellation of all games. That's just the circumstance we are in right now. So, yeah, playing CFB after week one is going to be hard.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

    • Seems reasonable.
I'm worried you will see one team have a massive outbreak and that will snowball into a major conference shutting everything down.... then NCAA will shut everything down just like the NCAA Tourney. Some colleges (Wisconsin?) are at least partially reopening the campus. College kids love to party and that is the perfect storm when it comes to an outbreak.

Eh, oh well. At least golf and NBA are safely working. As the Purdue/ M fan, if we can get that week 1 game in... that'll satisfy me until 2021 when it comes to college football.

The whole "inertia" aspect is really bothersome. Being that everything was essentially stopped, the hysterics are going to insist on a nearly zero-risk situation before the ball is actually put into play. It doesn't matter that this isn't essential, or even practical. It's just not possible. This is especially troubling if the metric is "symptoms" without regards to their "severity".

I'll be modestly surprised if this schedule even starts, and will be exponentially more amazed with each passing week if it keeps going.

        • I think week 1 will get played. After that it will be hold your breath time, to see what happens as far as any new outbreaks.

          • If there are infections, then make guys sit and play walkons. Maybe this will be a wacky year where Rutgers wins the B1G as a result. If that bothers you, then add an asterisk. Who gives a shit? Play the damn games. Learning how to overcome adversity and deal with life’s curbeballs is an important lesson too. The players will learn more from that than any Gender Studies course. If you get Covid-19 you’re not gone for the season. Three games probably. And not sveryone will get it. The games can be played. The fear and panic are unnecessary.

            • If you’re looking for positive examples, don’t forget about hockey. NHL is going wonderfully so far.

              • I agree that it should be next man up. It just worries me because MLB hasn't figured that out... so will NFL or college football be successful at it?

Dare to say something about the actual football game (there isn't a Purdue vs M football game thread), but I think M will have trouble with Purdue's WRs.
Everyone already knows who Rondale Moore is. David Bell is a guy to get familiar with. I believe Bell was a higher rated recruit than Moore + had a quietly great true freshman season.
Bell had 35 catches, 359 yards, and 3 TDs in his last 3 games of 2019.
Question with Purdue is at QB. I think Jack Plummer (no relation to Jake Plummer) will be the starter. Brohm loves to switch QBs though.

                • I hate that we have to play Purdue in game #1 before their annual traditional rash of ACL injuries has had a chance to take effect.

                  • Our DBs should be OK against everyone other than OSU. The back 7 will be very good. DEs will be reall good. DT is a big time weakness again unless one of our 2019 guys has a breakout year.

                    • Our "Bell" (Ronnie?) should have a breakout year, .. as long as it lasts. He may be the best receiver on the team.

                          • I seem to remember reading that Purdue's coach had some sort of axe to grind with Harbaugh. If so, that could add a bit of pre-game hype.

Dammit, yup. Just announced yesterday. Sucks... every time Purdue thinks they have a nice thing, it's snagged away. Of course most people know about the torn ACLs history. I blame that ridiculous Kyle Orton fumble vs Wisconsin in 2004 for creating this curse.
Oh well. David Bell. Yes, David Bell is the guy.

                              ...

Ronnie Bell looks very promising if he can avoid the yips with dropped passes. Some people, like Eric Ebron, never can stop the drops.
Might be overreacting because whenever I think of Ronnie Bell, it's THE dropped pass vs Penn State.

                              • It's nuts for a guy like Moore to sit out the season unless he is planning on playing his senior year.
