Well, the blood is on the hands of Whitmer and Schlissel, in that order.

There are plenty of people within the university that want to play football. Including Harbaugh and Manuel.

Just the TV money alone could help avert a lot of the financial problems that will be felt in 2021.

Whitmer is the real problem here. If she'd give her approval, Schlissel would fall in line right away. I'm convinced of that.

    • I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere but Whitmer opened the door for HS football to resume here in Michigan today.

The MHSAA announced afterward that the regular season will kick off a 6-game regular season on September 18. There will be full playoffs with every team in the state qualifying, and a State Finals weekend the first week of December, which is about a week later than usual.

There will be limits on spectator numbers, but at least the kids will get a chance to play.

This *could* be a crack in the door for Michigan and MSU to still play football this fall. Its a small crack, but it wasn't there yesterday.

EDIT: To add link to Detroit News story with the announcement.

One thing that I find interesting is that Whitmer went against the advice of one of her biggest yup-yup people, and allowed gyms to reopen, and contact sports to resume. Her top Dr YupYup still advises against it.

      • I found this interesting....

“However, we know of 30 reported outbreaks involving athletic teams and facilities in August. Based on current data, contact sports create a high risk of COVID-19 transmission and MDHHS strongly recommends against participating in them at this time. We are not out of the woods yet. COVID-19 is still a very real threat to our families.”

This brings a few questions up...

        1) Are there outbreaks that were not reported?

        2) Is there going to be testing? If so, how often and who pays for it?

        3) I don't think Whitmer is thinking this way, but if there is a spike/more outbreaks in schools....will this give her sufficient cause to shut things down again?

2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

          Gotta ignore those facts.

          • Just read another report regarding the QB race right now and it says if the season would have started today, Joe Milton would have gotten the starting job. McCaffery and McNamara are battling for 2nd string. The report said that not only had Milton become the starter, but that he's the starter, and its not even close. He has separated himself from the pack.

            That would have been entertaining.

            • Lots of good comments from players and parents that participated in the protest at Michigan Stadium yesterday. Dylan McCaffery said the "entire team" wants to play ball.

Harbaugh said the team has had NO positive Covid tests, in over 800 given.

              • Yeah, well, convince Schlissel. And we all know he’s not doing PDJT any favors so he’d rather not play then give PDJT a “win.”

                • Schlissel and to a lesser degree Whitmer are the main stumbling blocks to Big Ten football right now. I think if Whitmer relents, like she did for HS football, then Schlissel might do so if some way can be found for him to save face, and give him some insulation should an outbreak occur.

If Michigan and MSU change their votes to yes, then I think most every other team will also vote to go along. Maryland and Rutgers may drag their feet, but who needs them anyway....

                  • Rutgers insiders seem to think Rutgers will vote to play. It's fucking M and their asshat President. Credit to HARBAUGH!!!! for doing what he can, but it's clear he's not going to change Schlissel's mind.

                    • So now, Dictator Gretch Whitmer signed yet another EO that states all HS football players in Michigan must wear a face covering when playing.

Most Michigan high school sports are getting a late start this fall, and now a new rule will make sure you see sports like you've never seen before.

Lets tally that up, shall we? Players will be wearing a helmet, .. with a mouth guard, covered by a cloth face mask, and the face mask that comes attached to the helmet.

Maybe she will want them to wear oxygen masks next?

                      • And, in other great news for HS football players in Michigan ....

If your team gets to the State Finals, you're NOT going to be playing at Ford Field. The MHSAA said today that Ford Field "will not be available".

SO, that means all state final games will be played at outdoor venues on the weekend of December 4-5...
