The mgoboard poster that wrote that, DrMantis Tobaggan is sharp. When I scroll through posts, he's one of the posters I look for. There are others. I'd like to post your response on his post, with your permission. I think your take is stronger since you have first hand knowledge of Warinner's skill set and back up your eval with where M's OL recruits were on the 247.

Ruiz probably leaves early, that's 4 new OL That's a huge drop off even if you've elite talent playing as 1st year players. OL is the major reason I think 8-4 isn't off the table for next season.
Offensive depth chart:
QB - McCaffrey - Joe Milton
RB - Haskins/ Charbonnet/Evans
WR - Tarik Black - Cornelius Johnson
WR2 - Ronnie Bell - AJ Henning
WR3 - Mike Sainristil - Giles Jackson
TE - Nik Eubanks - Erick All / Schoonmaker
LT - Jalen Mayfield - Trevor Keegan
RT - Ryan Hayes/Andrew Steuber
C - Stephen Spanellis - Jack Stewart
LG - Chuck Filiaga - Trente Jones
RG - Joel Honingford - Nolan Rumler
Interior OL is where the issues look too big to overcome, need guys to be ready and not make mistakes who didn't come in that highly regarded and who are playing in their first season as starters.

talent et. all ....... you'll like this post in response to some yokel who posted about osu having bagmen:
FrozeMangoes
December 3rd, 2019 at 2:57 PM ^
Did Hoke have bagmen? Jh isn't recruiting on his level. Does Juwan have bagmen now? Recruiting is about energy and perception, the shine is off Harbaugh. The bagmen thing is a lazy excuse. Sure the top recruits get paid, that doesn't mean JH can't get more 200-400 level players. He did in '16 and '17. The staff started targeting off the radar kids in the northeast and projects when db was hired, it hasn't worked.
OSU's class this year isn't what Urban was pulling in, did their bagmen retire?
The way the mboboard works sucks. It's incredibly hard to figure out the sequence of posts. I do my best. Some good stuff and it's generating a lot of talk. As you pointed out there is a lot of shit-posts too like the one that dismissed anything an osu observer had to say. Just dumb. It's why I don't post a lot there. Some real children living in thier paretn's basment sort of thing.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Defensive depth chart:
DE: Kwity Paye - Luiji Vilain
DE: Aidan Hutchinson - David Ojaba
DT: Carlo Kemp/ Chris Hinton
DT: Mike Dwumfour/ Donovan Jeter/Mazi Smith
MLB: Josh Ross - Devin Gil
ILB: Cameron McGrone - Jordan Anthony
WLB: Michael Barrett - Joey Valazquez
CB: Ambry Thomas
CB: Vincent Gray
CB3: Jalen Perry / DJ Turner
FS: Daxton Hill - Jaylen Kelly-Powell
SS: Brad Hawkins -
Uche there was talk of a retroactive redshirt for his freshman season that I don't think he'll use... Cornerback has been my major issue in recruiting and it shows, Ambry Thomas will be a senior and I don't see who is going to replace him. This will be an experienced defense but I just don't see the young talent behind these guys able to replenish when they graduate.

I've always cautioned against expecting OL to be ready as underclassmen unless they are elite. Some good talent in that two deep I listed that'll surpass expectations. Needing three, four new starters on the OL is a typical recipe for a disappointing offense though a bit less so in the spread offense generation.

talent, I had no problem understanding your comments on recruiting. Overall, you're thoughts have drawn out some of the better posters there to comment. There are some solid takes most of them agreeing with much of what you said (AK47). If they disagree, they'll back it up (Dr.Mattis).
Dr.Mantis Toboggan doesn't like your characterization of Warinner implied by your statement: which, I think (the OL) is turning into a vintage Warriner "low star/modestly higher production" unit -- good for beating Indiana, not so good for beating OSU).
I am not a "recruiting rankings don't matter" guy at all, but have dude go check out the recruiting rankings on Warinner's 2014 OL that had 4 NFL guys on it. That's my comment on Warinner's abilities - he made that line, not the other way around.
Mayfield would have been the 4th highest rated OL in last year's class in the composite btw. The good news is that there is a fairly good chance that no OL from the 2019 class even starts next year. Your line is probably Hayes, Filiaga, Ruiz, Stueber, and Mayfield. If a 2019 OL commit beats any of them out, it's because they are ready earlier than expected.
Mayfield didn't end the year "meh", either. He was up and down to start, ended the year looking like the future pro he is. He and Runyan kicked Chase Young's ass last Saturday. Michigan did very few things well against OSU, but the passing game for ~3 quarters was one of them, and that was in large part thanks to Mayfield (and some Runyan) winning against a top 3 draft pick.
I think looking forward to the 2020 OL performance requires it to be evaluated, esp. at this point, in comparison to the D Fronts M will face. I'm not sure that's being addressed at mgobard. Sure, there's talent and probably depth but CFB teams are putting a shit-ton of emphasis on finding DL prospects and hiring coaches that can develop them. My take is that OLmen have taken a rather prominent role in modern offenses and while they are still big, the best of them are really quick (Owenu is an example). That skill set goes with RPO and ZR offenses. Quick can be developed but I'd imagine it's hard to spot.
I do like Dr.Mattis' take on Warinner. I think he has been really good. I actually think your comments on Warinner were taken a bit out of context as I think you do believe he was an elite OL coach or very close to it.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; December 3, 2019, 05:02 PM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. Warriner is very good at coaching and not as good at recruiting. I can run through a ton of OSU recruits that never developed. I know exactly what to expect from Warriner. But, this is really a time will tell argument.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

The Mayfield take on him v. CY is pitiful. If I can find some video, of him getting owned on run plays I'll post it. He did do well in pass-pro but that had more to do with how Gattis schemed than some elite RT stuff.
I think Steuber, if he is healthy, can beat him out at LT. Steuber is a prototypical LT. Mayfield isn't. It's early. We'll see. Their rankings are similar, high 200s to low 300s. These are the kinds of guys that you point out Warinner is good with developing.
The place that M failed at on the 2019 OL was getting moved by very good to elite DL in the run game. Owenu is very good but holly shit, the entire OL got moved by osu's DL. Gattis was smart v. MSU. He went almost air-raid and it worked so, yeah, Gattis!!! But, MSU was pretty average to good on their DL this season. osu was elite and played like it.
PSU and Iowa in the run game were weird. Nothing much to take from that on Mayfield or Owenu.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; December 3, 2019, 05:45 PM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished.
