Props to Seth at mgo for the Fee Fi Fo Film article I borrowed the picture below from:
So, this is not hard to understand. This is the extent of what Wisconsin does. They do it well like Michigan doesn't with their offense - which speaks to Hack's point he made elsewhere. They've been doing it well like this for a decade. These formations will create a ton of gaps - like 10 of them - through which a patient Taylor can pick from to run through.
The trick for the defense is figuring out which one of the 325+ lb dudes in front of them is going to block them, take on the block and then find out that, whoops,Taylor didn't go there; instead he went to one of the other uncovered gaps among the 10 you tried to cover with 7, 8 or even 9 defenders.
Wisconsin also likes defenders to put as many people as possible in the box because it slows things down and this is good for what overwhelming amounts of Wisconsin beef can do smashing into, wrestling with for a long time and pushing back those defenders.
Last season, when M beat up Wisconsin in AA, Michigan's DL was slightly better and they had Bush at Viper and Winovich at DE creating infinite havoc for Hornibrook and, when called for, sitting back and picking the gap Taylor was going to run through and stuffing him. With Hornibrook terrorized, Wisconsin became one dimensional and allowed Brown to focus all his bullets on Jonathan Taylor like no one had done before and M probably won't again in 2019.
Hudson does not equal Bush and Aiden Hutchinson approaches but does not equal Winovich. Does Kemp or Paye equal Gary? Nope, not even the two of them summated. Can the 2018 interior DL hold up like the 2018 version did v. Bucky? Ask me later. Will Paul Chryst do the insanely stupid thing he tended to do from the 50 on 3rd and 3 - not run JT? He showed a little bit of that stupid v. UCF but, v. M, I doubt it. So, that equation most likely equals doom with a very slim chance for not doom.

So, does Wisconsin's offense have a weakness that M can exploit? Probably. Seth calls it the young and inexperienced factor. One guy, the badger C is a bad-ass. The rest are large OL that can make the kinds of mistakes that inexperienced fellows of this type do.
It remains to be seen how good Coan, Wisconsin's QB, is under pressure. When he did get pressure, the few times that happened v. UCF and CMU, it appeared he had a very scripted plan to deal with it - take the sack and hold on to the ball.
Given the OL's propensity, other than the C, to make new guy mistakes and Coan not being great under pressure, there might be an opening for Brown's aggressiveness with his DEs (Kemp and Paye most likely) to do some damage putting Wisconsin in the same kind of situation they faced last season against Don Brown's boys. Then again, Wisconsin could just run Taylor all the time making this contest look like the game where a defenseless Michigan during the RR era, got rolled by Bucky without a single pass being thrown!Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. Right -- I haven't read Seth yet, as I save those for evening reading, but this is a young line and a new starter at QB. And this team hasn't played a GOOD team yet. It gets credit for taking care of business against USF and CMU, but it's unknown. No way to be certain about this.

Statistics wise, Wisconsin has it all over UM. Say what you will about Whiskey's competition. They've shut out their first two opponents while averaging 55 points. Most impressive is their production and balance on offense. Unless UM does a sudden about face in terms of turnovers and offensive imagination, they are going to get killed.

Here's the original Lamb Tweet:
What I've heard is Zach Charbonnet is being scoped a second time to correct unfinished work from his spring procedure. Would likely miss a few weeks. This is not an attempt to troll. That kind of thing is not my cup of tea. Especially not reporting things such as injuries.
This update tweet from Lamb late last night seems to be getting some traction:
Update: This does appear to be a pre-existing thing that has been aggravated and would require an additional procedure. If it is delayed, it would require significant pain management to play. If/when it's done, it's looking like a few week recovery.
https://twitter.com/kylamb8/status/1...088393216?s=21
On balance, I think the Lamb follow-up tweet is accurate..
Jon Jansen has been quoted as saying on his Sirius radio broadcast late last night that Charbonett was seenwalking around and will play. Note that a knee injury like ZC's may not affect the injured person's capacity to walk.
Sam Webb posted around 10:30pm last night on the message boards that he won't get ahead of Michigan in terms of injury reporting but did say that ZC missed practice the last couple days.
Lamb's original post makes sense given Charbonett's history and was foreshadowed by early Yoder reports (of a season ending injury to a starter) last week that ZC was injured (along with Mayfield). There was probably some truth to the Yoder report if not a bit overblown. The Yoder report was debunked without much support for doing so only that Yoder has a history of making stuff up, aggregating stuff that is tweeted or posted and can't be trusted. He often ends up being at least half way right.
On the technical side, meniscus tears suck because they can linger despite scoping and debridement. You can't mitigate them with bracing. The injury can produce locking and intense pain on cutting and as I mentioned in the other thread where this was getting discussed yesterday, apprehension is a factor in performance.
Definitive care involves three approaches: (1) Do nothing after the scope and let it heal on its own, (2) Repair the injured portion of the meniscus with sutures. The risk with this approach is that the meniscus suffers from poor blood supply and healing of a sutured meniscus can be problematic. (3) Removal of it. Removal is the preferred approach when the injury to the tissue is significant enough to do so.
So, looking at ZC's history, we know he had a knee issue in HS. We know he had knee surgery (scoped) before he came to M as an early enrollee officially in January, 2019. We don't know the approach that was used then. Given the current concerns, the initial injury to the meniscus, when it was scoped, may have been determined to be insignificant enough to do nothing to it. Young athletes are very likely to heal without suturing or cutting. I'll speculate little if anything was done to ZC's knee during his first arthroscopic procedure before coming to M. He was in the healing phase when he came to M in January and was held out of spring practice for that reason.
After the Army game, he may have complained that it was bothering him. There may have been post game swelling. If so, you wait for the swelling to subside, receive therapy, reevaluate and move on from there. So, maybe the swelling subsided, he felt good and practiced the first week and it didn't go well. I'll speculate that at that point, he had an MRI. I'll go on to speculate that the MRI revealed something definitive: (1) no change, no further injury, (2) injury worse or new injury. A report that he was held out of practice at some point and duration this week is probably accurate. So, here's where we are ...... no change, further injury: wait and see or further injury, new injury: have a 2nd arthroscopic procedure, look at it and decide cut, suture or let it ride.
M's medical staff is renowned for it's caution playing it safe with even a hint of an injury and this is beyond a hint. My guess is that he's 60/40 not to play, IOW, he's questionable. I really can't see any good reason to put him in the game given what we know for sure and can reasonably speculate. I'll be surprised if he plays and will speculate that if he does, it's because the MRI he probably had, compared to what M's medical staff had from his previous surgeons, showed no further injury, no new injury .... he feels good and was kept out of practice anyway beginning at some point last week or early this week as a precaution and to protect him from further injury.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; September 19, 2019, 08:43 AM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. Now, let's look at the circumstance where he has a 2nd Arthroscopic procedure. I'll speculate that the injured portion of the meniscus will be cut out as this is the preferred procedure.
Meniscus tears that are cut out through debridement have a much shorter recovery time than those that are repaired with stitches. Patients use crutches for 1-2 days, and are able to return to their everyday activities within one week. At one month the average patient is 80% back to their pre-tear activities and sports, and 90-95% at two months.
So, repair, one month of recovery and therapy, 2 months to get back to playing. Returns for Indiana. I'm going with this as 60% probably and Harbaugh will announce it during his Monday presser following the Wisconsin game.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; September 19, 2019, 08:44 AM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. From the WTKA broadcast this morning around 9:30am, via an mgobard post at 10:30am.....
From Sam Webb:
To preface, Sam does not release any extensive information pertaining to injuries before there is an official release, as is the case with all credible Michigan football insiders. With that being said, he states that there has been no surgery and the information surrounding a potential injury is being "overstated." He then went on to comment that he believes Charbonnet will be available on Saturday and will play. He also said definitively that any rumor describing a Michigan football player to be out "up to or through the Notre Dame game" is absolutely false. That statement alone discredits one of the primary individuals pushing this rumor (we all know who that is). We will not know until Saturday whether he will play, but I do not think there is an immediate concern with ZC. Is there something going on? Possibly. Will this something impact his status for Saturday's game? I do not think so.
Webb is a pretty reliable source. He is known to receive occasional calls from Michigan's Athletic Department that inform his broadcasts. IOW he is at times a M football program mouth piece.
I still think Lamb's post is credible even though as of right now posters who aren't shit posting about this are running 5:1 in favor of the position that Charbonett will play. But, see above: Is there something going on? Possibly. Will this something impact his status for Saturday's game? I do not think so.
........ and what I posted up thread:
..... if he plays and will speculate that if he does, it's because the MRI he probably had, compared to what M's medical staff had from his previous surgeons, showed no further injury, no new injury .... he feels good and was kept out of practice anyway beginning at some point last week or early this week as a precaution and to protect him from further injury.
I'm going to 70/30 he plays based on the Webb statement on his WTKA broadcast this am. Hoping Wilson and Turner can play to ease the burden on ZC. Hassan Haskins is reliably reported as injured (broken hand/finger) and will not play.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; September 19, 2019, 10:25 AM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. Webb is a great example of somebody getting punked repeatedly and acting like it never happened because he still gets to control the message.
Yoder might be a self-aggrandizing asshole but over the past year or so he has gotten it right a lot more often than Webb and he has staked his credibility on some pretty big news that turned out to be true.

Yoder is an embarrassment to M fans. He regularly gets in twitter fights with players, harasses their families, and recruits trying to acquire information. He's received so many complaints from recruits/players that the University had to issue a release to say he was in no way affiliated with the athletic department.
Hannibal, the tweets were public of him getting into spats with recruits saying player X was going to decommit, he got into it again with Rashan Gary's mom on twitter. When he's wrong, he counts on people like you to forget. You might find Yoder entertaining though people enjoy the National Enquirer too.

If you follow Michigan football message boards, you have almost certainly heard of James Yoder. Yoder is the self-proclaimed King of Michigan media who is known by most as a complete fraud. He consistently trolls real Michigan reporters such as Sam Webb and blows more smoke than a chimney. On Friday, the University of Michigan...
