Another Michigan team leaves Columbus with its head down.

I guess we still haven't had enough of that yet.

When they get tired of it, they'll do something about it. In this case, standing and watching the opponent hoist up 3 after 3 is not a way to get ready for the tournament.

Absolutely the wrong time to be fading. Good teams at this time of the year are starting to rise.

They'll make the NCAA's, but an early departure looks to be inevitable.

    • Ups and downs in a long season. I missed both games last week due to travel, so I don't know what it looks like for a Michigan team to be giving up tons of 3s, but these were matchups-driven losses. With OSU Wesson very clearly is a tough matchup pulling bigs out of the paint. You've got to get him in foul trouble. With Wisconsin, it sucks that we didn't have Brooks for that game. I'm all for giving Livers the next game off to get his legs under him. Get an easy win and prep for Maryland.

As for the tournament, well, we'll see. As long as we're off the 8/9 line I like our chances to get to the second weekend. Also matchups driven, so I'd fear any 2/3 seed with a big who can drain 3s like Wesson can. Not many of those.

      • It's being reported that Austin Davis has already been grated a 5th year. I'm not sure if that means players have already let Juwan know they won't be back with the team or not. Austin certainly earned this offer, though.

        • The Spartans need your help against Maryland. Don't screw it up.

          • Michigan finished the home part of their schedule tonight defeating Nebraska 82-58. It was also the final home game for Jon Teske and Zavier Simpson. Noted during the game was John Beilein sitting in the crowd, and applauding the Wolverines. Jim Harbaugh was also there.

            Quoted from the Detroit News:

The Wolverines will finish the regular season at Maryland on Sunday, with a scheduled tipoff at Noon. It would sure be nice to get that 20th win.

              • Would they really play March Madness with fan-less arenas?

A week ago, I would have thought that idea to be completely ridiculous. Today, I see that as a real possibility.

If that happens, local businesses and hosting arenas are going to lose a ton of money.

The networks will still make their money ...

Mike DeWine, our Governor, is pushing this. There's those games in Dayton every year and this year there were supposed to be first round games in Cleveland too. They've already banned most fans from this week's MAC tournament, which is in Cleveland every year. The high school girls and boys tournaments going on right now are being tightly restricted too. I think basically just parents allowed.

The tournament is still a full week away and everyday there are more confirmed cases and more and more mounting pressure to stop large gatherings. Some smaller conferences have already decided for their tournaments to go fan-less or have cancelled tournaments altogether. One of the more famous film/music festivals in the world (SXSW in Austin) has canceled completely. Doc Strangelove mentioned what's going on in Ohio. The NBA is looking into even postponing the season (although that would be the ultimate last resort of course). Seattle is banning gatherings of 250 or more. Hell they even shut down climbers from climbing Mount Everest. Mount Everest!!

I would have thought the idea of March Madness going fan-less was absurd too but now I'm leaning towards it being very likely at this point.

                        • Yeah I read in an article today that a USA Today writer was calling for the tournament to be canceled completely.

I don't think they'll go that route but fan-less venues for the tournament would obviously make it the strangest and weirdest tournament ever. So all we'd hear is the announcers, the ball bouncing and the whistle from the refs?

It would feel like a practice scrimmage

                          • The networks have to be excited about the prospect of not having any live viewing. If there are various thumbs on the scale I bet theirs is pretty heavy.

                            • I think a "friends and family" only tournament is almost a certainty at this point. It'll be beyond weird to watch.
