Well, at least it's pretty obvious they weren't trying to hide shit.

Well, when the police write the ticket there's nothing left to do. Remember when JTB got a DWI and ended up suspended for a game? Ticket was written. No way to cover those tracks.
I wonder how long Warde's Car Emporium has been operating.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Well, Car Emporium benes go all the way back to the famous 1996 roll-over car wreck that involved recruit Manteen Cleaves, M players Maurice Taylor, who was driving, Willie Mitchell, Robert Traylor, Louis Bullock, all starters, and Ron Oliver. They were driving a "loaner" and returning late at night from a Detroit party that the players had brought Cleaves to. I'll be Cleaves got laid too.
Yep, there's no question that M has a long history of breaking NCAA rules on benefits to athletes. The only difference is that when it happens and subsequently gets exposed, M bends over backwards to take it in the ass. The self immolation over Ed Martin payments to Chris Weber and how that got uncovered was the worst followed by the silliness of PracticeGate.

Driving the AD's car? And since he was suspended, I assume that he had been drinking or something too, and I also assume that Warde was not in the vehicle at the time. Makes no sense and might be the outright dumbest NCAA violation in the history of NCAA violations.

This was apparently an 8-year-old RAV4 that Manuel's kid drives. Not exactly this:
That won't stop Jeff from rolling over and taking it from Talent, or failing to understand the concepts of size and scope and frequency, or that it appears there were no NCAA violations, but that's nothing new.
IMO Michigan should be on the right side of the various sets of rules all the time instead of almost all of the time. I don't recall the last time something like this happened on the basketball team, which is good, and I'd have been ok with a longer suspension so that we go another very long time before the next incident of this kind.

Buchanan:
I appreciate your honest admission that M sports programs rampantly cheat. That took a lot of guts. Well done.

Rampantly? Not my choice of words.
I'm pretty sure though that benefits pass hands. In fact, I have no doubt. The problem is that M admin is a fucking disaster when dealing with the discovery or suspicion of them compared to most programs that are high enough on the totem poll that anyone gives a shit about it. I'd bet most of those programs that stonewall the NCAA (and I mean that in a positive sense) have written, if not kept under top secret lock and key, protocols to deal with news of possible or alleged NCAA violations.
M? Nope. That would be rude, unethical and downright dismissive of the enforcement role of the NCAA. Roll over is the byword at the administrative level.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. So, after the loss to osu the other night, the complaints about refereeing came up - no surprise there. 2d ago, there was a diary piece at mgo that was titled, "Let's make an epic list of UM getting screwed by refs and officials... I'll start."
It's actually interesting but I will bet every P5 program could come up with a list like this which begs the question, if only a portion of these "screw jobs" by college referees are on point, why do the conferences - and I think this is especially true of Delaney and the BT (but I'm closer to it that other conferences and probably biased) - not address it and admit its a problem?

OMG. Knife/gunfight. Chase Young Terelle Pryor Troy Smith Maurice Clarett tats cars and on and on, and that's the on purpose/coverup shit you haven't seen at Michigan since they were horrified 25 years ago but at OSU is seen as ethically acceptable and encouraged behavior. Jesus fucking Christ, Jeff. Talent must be paying you.

I don't think the police report on Zavier Simpson's wreck mentioned anything about alcohol being involved. Sounds like he was out and around town at a time when he wasn't supposed to be, and likely acting like an idiot with a borrowed car.
For which, the NCAA will hit Michigan with the death penalty in all sports.

It mentioned he was stumbling
He gave a false name and it was 3 AM
They said they didn't give a breath test because they didn't think he was driving the car.
Maybe he wasn't drinking at all, and was just out later than he was supposed to be, and got stupid while driving in icy conditions? Nah .. there must be a coverup somewhere ....
I'm saying alcohol was involved
And finally, Simpson has admitted since the incident, that he was driving.
The Ann Arbor Police have closed the case.
The reason for Michigan senior guard Zavier Simpson’s recent suspension was finally revealed Friday.
