You may recall Michigan basketball from such previous inbounding adventures as the '14 Elite 8 team's game against Texas?
I liked that, five games into the new coach's tenure, and with a new starter debuting after injury, they beat a tournament team led by a possible lottery pick and controlled the game for its last 35 minutes. Howard is starting to answer the questions you have about any new coach. He can recruit, and his players are playing hard for him, and there's been no transition attrition. The schemes look impressive so far. We've yet to see very much in terms of in-game decision making, and we've yet to see that he has the ability to address execution problems. If he can do those things, I'm very excited to see what in-season improvements are to come, and what the offense will look like when Simpson is more comfortable in it, when Livers gets a feel for his limitations, and when Wagner and Castleton settle into their roles. I'm not counting on Johns, but if he can cut down on the mistakes and indecision and give them 15 good minutes a game, than this is a legit 8-deep team with all the ingredients you want.
Not expecting much tomorrow against UNC, nor is anybody else. The goal here was to win the first game, and it's house money after that. If this raw version of what's to come actually gives UNC a game, or wins it, expectations are going to hit the roof and I'll need help staying grounded from all of you, TIA.
