New analyst Nate Woody seems like a Jim McElwain kind of hire. His coaching career goes way back as a LB unit coach then various programs as DC including his last two at App State and GT. He was at FCS Wofford, where he played as a LB, then as an assistant coach and DC from 1988 to 2013.
I tried to look for articles that described his schemes on defense hoping to find some evidence that he might have had experience with the kind of defensive schemes transitioning to defending players not formations - putting your best defenders on the opponent's best receivers. No luck. His defenses were never great but they were solid middle of the road types. He's a 3-4 guy but I don't think that makes any difference as Brown runs both 4 man and 3 man fronts.
He'll probably be breaking down the defenses of M's opponents pre-game and M's defense post game although with Al Washington gone, who did coach LBs, he could fill in there.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. I just can't imagine keeping him on the pay roll or, for that matter on the staff at all.
