  • He wasn't a consistent playmaker, not a good pass blocker. He played school like he played ball. Not always there. I'm just looking at a depth issue at this point, we have some good running backs coming in and I like Turner better than him anyway.

    • Also even before the end of the year I questioned if Evans would be back for next season, either by choice or coaches not giving him a 5th year. A lot of that had to do with scholarship numbers, playing time, his role, and what this team needs going forward.

For the team ... I was thinking he might be asked to move on to get others more reps, carries, and possible numbers crunch with recruiting, but it looks like Michigan will have plenty of scholarships for next seasons roster.

      • He was hurt for quite a bit of the year. Think that affected his performance more than anything.

                • On Pep Hamilton, this is what we're looking for. It seems he was let go and does not yet have a job. I don't know the details of his contract or the terms of his departure. I don't know if he's getting paid per his contract or not. I would suspect he is and Harbaugh made absolutely sure he had a soft landing.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                  • Also, some conflicting reports from Albuf and tweets from Evans. The way I read the two sources is that Evans is no longer with the team for academic reasons that he's working on. He'll stay at M as a student but probably not on a football scholarship. My bet is that he wants to return to the team and will if he gets his academics in order. However, if he didn't meet the requirements to stay on a football scholarship, I'm not entirely sure how he might regain one. I suspect there is a plan in place for him to do so.

                    • In a somewhat interesting development, O'Maury Samuels, who was dismissed without reason from the football team on December 9th, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of maliciously destroying property valued at less than $200 in court today. A domestic violence charge was dropped. Samuels said after the hearing, "there was no proof that I hit a woman." He's likely to get a fine and probation under Michigan's Holmes Youthful Trainee Act. Sentencing is set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 27. Under HYTA, if Samuels can complete probation without issue, the malicious destruction of property charge would be wiped from his permanent record.

The question this brings up is can Samuels return to the team? IMO, I think he should be given an opportunity to do so. I don't know his status as a student as whatever action the U might have taken is not going to be in the public record. The incident that resulted in the charges against him did take place in West Quad and it was University police that responded. I believe that for local authorities to act, a complaint has to be filed with them by the alleged victim. I assume that happened. Once that happens the U will usually pass although a student may still be held accountable under applicable Student Conduct rules. So, there is that complication if he wants to play at M again. It just may not be possible.

Hate it young men get caught up in this kind of activity. He was obviously angry about something that involved his girlfriend. You just have to walk away, man. Have to.

                      • Per Feldman on Twitter, Pep Hamilton has landed as GM and HC of the XFL Franchise in Washington DC. Not bad. I wonder how much Harbaugh had to do with this?

Sorry I don't have a link. Noted on mgoboard without one.

                        • Per his Tweet, O'Maury Samuels is transferring after he reportedly had a domestic violence charge dropped yesterday in his court appearance for that charge.

Long discussion at mgoboard on the RB situation. People who know more than I do about RBs are concerned. Lack of experience, esp. blocking experience, and no feature back. Charbonnet could break through but that's considered a big if.

                          • Christian Turner and Zach Charbonnet are the only scholarship running backs, the former nearly redshirted last season and the latter an incoming true freshman...

I see way too many carries for Tru Wilson and Ben Mason and athletes moving to running back from elsewhere... Talent level of the two scholarship backs is excellent but M is going to need more than those two even if they pan out.

                            • Might have to use the passing game as an extension of the running game?

                              • Are we the only major program that has to constantly field our slower, more plodding guys because of pass blocking concerns?
